Browsers Except Firefox Eliminating The Option To Turn Off Surveilling "Hyperlink Auditing"

Most browsers -- except Firefox and Brave -- are eliminating the option to turn off surveilling "hyperlink auditing"
(I had to shorten the title to fit it)

Web site operators who want to spy on their users can add a "ping" directly to hyperlinks in their pages; these "ping" URLs are invisibly, silently by the browser when the user clicks the associated link, allowing third parties to be notified about your clicking activities.

When "ping" was standardized as "hyperlink auditing," browser vendors made it possible (if difficult) to disable it (for example, Safari had a hidden preference for this: "defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2HyperlinkAuditingEnabled -bool false").

But in their latest versions, most browsers are removing this option. It's been eliminated from Safari and Chrome (and their derivatives like Chromium, Opera and Edge).

The exception is Firefox (and Brave, which is a derivative of Chromium), where hyperlink auditing is turned off by default.

With privacy and online tracking being such a large problem and major concern for many users, you would think that browser developers would give you the option to disable anything that could affect your privacy.

Unfortunately, this seems to be going in the reverse direction when it comes to hyperlink auditing.

...

NOTE: Brave, the Browser I pulled from the thread title due to length is a derivative of Firefox.

Ok, so you know how you can click "Back" in your Browser? Hyperlink Auditing allows every website you have visited to be sent to each new website, so they can view your entire Back History. Naah, not intrusive at all. For example, I put a link to the source website, but that source website will be able to see that you first started at google, then googled Ron Paul Forums, then Ron Paul Forums took you to the link I posted. It also tells Google each new site once youre off of Google, even if you block Google Analytics. The biggest risk is not to you as an individual, but rather it will draw the ire of the Censors who will eventually want Ron Paul and these very forums SILENCED PERMANENTLY. Once RPF is Depersoned online, then you will be considered a Thought Criminal for trying to come here. If we have anything like China does, then your ability to renew your Drivers License may be revoked, could be fired from your job, insurance denied, etc. They CAN ruin your life because of the sites you visit.

If you are smart enough to run Firefox, its easy to check if its on:

Type about:config in your Address Bar. then find "browser.send_pings" and make sure its value is "false". This "feature" is also "old" and they now use Beacon, so I also suggest searching for "beacon.enabled" and set that to "false" also. These types of Browser Features are the things that get you Depersoned.

My copy of waterfox had beacon enabled.

Even with Firefox you have to also implement "Ghostery" and "NO scipt" to actually sever those links. Seriously... Firefox still does not prevent scrips from running and tracking cookies by it's self. A good habit to get in also is to take the time to open EVERY link in a new tab and then close that tab when you are done. Don't go back and forth on the same tab.

Not sure my Firewall would allow that..

it does not respond to "ping".

Firefox get all of its "profit" from Google search deal. That pretty much say it all about their hypocritical marketed slogan.

Do yourself a favor and uninstall Firefox and get Brave instead. They kicked out their cofounder because he's donated to some conservative org. And now he's making Brave. Fuck the valley and their socialist cunts.

Brave is the only browser that doesn't enable a 'backbrowse' ?

I looked into VPN's a while back , would a vpn and Brave combined be a 'safe' bet?

There is another thing about firefox that needs to be known. They also gather data contrary to their privacy statement and share it with one of their partners the Ford Foundation. Now why the Ford Foundation needs this or what they do with it I have no idea.

I have been trying to get Brave to work on my Linux but their distribution for Linux does not work. But then even Brave has some strange officer connections. When I dug into the who is who connections about a year ago one of them, and maybe more, is a Bilderberger. Can't win...

Looks like it is time for another completely independent project and browser build. The base code to build on is open source and just needs to be compiled right and tweaked.

Ok,, but it will not make any connections that don't originate from this computer.

ad oh yea,, I do use Firefox mostly.

Brave is the way to go. But... The Brave download for Linux doesn't work. I am playing with that and in contact with a Brave developer in Spain right now trying to find the problem.

There is always Lynx. :D

I actually use lynx2 quite a bit when all I care about is reading the text. It consumes a lot less of my high speed data allotment. But as a base... Lynx would be a great start. It needs a few minor improvements to make it more comfortable to use, but it would be a good starting base for a light no frills Browser. :)

and these "pings" will originate from your computer. it is triggered by you clicking a link.

OK,, that I get..

on links I click on..

I have run Etherape,, in the past and observed the multiple network connections.. even investigated a few.

I am wondering what about this is different?

I have played with this..

But as I am not paranoid (I actually do know what is after me, and am unconcerned)
I use Firefox mostly.
