This book, a memoir of an officer in Vietnam, really opened my eyes. It's about reality and how to make it work, and why you should give a darn about moral concerns. I wouldn't say it's conservative, more just realist, and it is very quiet about political opinions -- instead, it just offers a soldier's view of how to make things work when you're on your own in the combat zone.
