How is this man the presidental candidate for the Libertarians?

He's massively pro-drug enforcement, voted yes to the Patriot Act, anti same-sex marriage, anti-abortion, voted for the iraq war, wants to ban wicca in the military (), and was on the prosecution board for Clintons impeachment.

I fully intend to vote Libertarian if you know who doesn't win the nomination, but it this is really true, I don't know if I can really trust this man. :(

Bob Barr is anti same-sex marriage at the state level.

"To be clear, I oppose any marriage save that between one man and one woman. And, I would do all in my power to ensure that such a formulation is the only one operative in my home state of Georgia."

He only changed his position on DOMA at the convention because he couldn't get nominated if he didn't. Days before the convention, he supported DOMA.

He's moved toward libertarianism (small "L") over the last several years. He joined the party at the end of '06, but endorsed Badnarik in '04. He may not be a "pure" Libertarian, but he's pretty close on most issues and he's very good at articulating a message of liberty to mainstream audiences. In fact, he's already received more media coverage than most Libertarian presidential candidates receive in an entire election cycle.

Here we go again trotting out this stale litany. Maybe he killed Bambi too. I'm still going to vote for him, unless Ron Paul's name is EXPLICITLY on the ballot.

And a few days after he won the LP nomination (during an interview, can't recall which) he was backtracking and claiming that it was still a GOOD piece of legislation and he still believed in it. (Need an "urping" smiley... why isn't there an "urping" smiley like I have on Skype? Oh well.)

Oh, and apparently he really doe NOT mean just "one man and one woman" -- he simply means "at one time" (He's on wife-oid #3, and she's been around for a few years now, so any day now...)

There is nothing wrong with educating people who want to know.

Quit bashing Barr.

Now see what you made me do! I just threw up a little, in the back of my throat.

It says a lot when posting the voting history and the truth about a Presidential candidate is called "bashing".

I am voting for Bob Barr. The man has had an awakening. He is the best one to get the message out to the most people.

This is not meant to bash Barr- this is meant in all seriousness. How can you tell the difference between a politician having an awakening and a politician pandering?

When Janet Reno said that she was taking "personal responsibility" for the Waco murders, she was pandering.

But you can be sure that its a bona-fide awakening when a politician such as Bob Barr says that finally after all these years he's learned the fundamental libertarian principle of "personal responsibility" and developed the conviction that he must repent directly to his many victims of his past drug war crimes and begs his victims to forgive him and not demand compensation for the ruination of their lives.

Barr has my vote, donations, and tireless support as soon as he pledges that when he's elected he will immediately issue an executive order ordering Vice President Root to transfer all of the millions that he's earned from his career as scamdicapping sports tout to the survivors and refugees in the tent cities and rubble of Iraq as partial compensation for Root's prior cheerleading of the war.

It's impossible to be sure.

However, I've never seen a politician pander to the losing side. Why would Barr, if it was an illegitimate "awakening," go to the Libertarian Party? He will likely never hold public office again. If he was really doing this for political reasons, he would've stayed in the Republican Party or gone Democrat (if it was heavy pandering for votes).
