It seems to me that the Star Tribune has turned into the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party.

As a former journalist myself, it pains me personally to see the poll they released today on our race. Its irresponsible. Its deceptive. And they have taken media bias off a cliff with this one.

Klobuchar by 29 points? There is something wrong here folks. Four other polls taken in the same timeframe are clustered from 14-21 down, the latest independent poll showing Klobuchar under 50%.

But ironically, this tells me one thing: THEY ARE SCARED.

There is only one reason to release such an outrageously skewed poll:

Daddy’s newspaper needs to protect daddy’s little girl.

The poll itself is D+14. To put it in context, in 2008 MN exiting polling was D+4. And in 2010, if you believed the polls then Dayton would have won by 7 points instead of in a recount – and Republicans would never have taken the MN House and Senate.

To say this poll is biased is like saying our national debt is “kinda big.”

The editors of the Star Tribune should be ashamed they print this as news. They were even afraid to quote me when I called them out on their ridiculous poll.

Turns out Kurt isn’t running against Klobuchar alone.

He is running against the Democrat’s public relations team: A/K/A the Star Tribune.

It is the campaign manager writing it, not Bills. Does her Dad own the paper? Or is he saying the party is like Daddy? Because then it is not so much spiteful as just stupid, but I agree the poll assumption of Dem turnout is ridiculous.

And stupid too since she's a former Hennepin County prosecutor. Why did Bills hire this bull-necked, neanderthal of a hack to run his campaign?

this actually offers a good excuse. And Bills would look 'Minnesota nice' doing it.

... then he can send a Hail Mary plea to Stebbins to help for the last leg of the campaign...

Bills' campaign manager Mike Osskopp dismissed the poll's results, saying that Democrats were overrepresented. The Minnesota Poll included 41 percent Democrats, 28 percent Republicans and 31 percent independents.

Osskopp said that a Bills internal poll found 35 percent self-identified Democrats, 25 percent Republicans and 40 percent independents. That poll, conducted early this month, showed Klobuchar with a 14 percentage point lead.

If the 35% D, 25% R and 40% I is correct, I wonder what the poll results would have been if those numbers were used.
 
I ran some numbers on this poll.... the poll was 41% Democrats, 28% Republicans and 31% Independents. Klobuchar's votes broke down like this: 305 Democrats, 33 Republicans and 121 Independants (I may be off by a vote or two because I'm dealing with percentages to figure out actual votes.) Bills' votes broke down like this: 4 Democrats, 149 Republicans and 67 Independents.

Now, to conduct a fair poll, the Star Tribune would need to poll a more even Democrat/Republican split. Using their polling numbers, I made a "poll" with numbers where 41% are Democrat (to match their number) and 41% are Republican instead of 28%. Using these percentages and giving 15% of the Republican vote to Klobuchar (like the original poll) and 1% of the Democrat vote to Bills (also like the original poll) and also matching the percentage of independent votes I come up with the following poll results. Klobuchar 53% and Bills 32%, which is closer to the poll results from a yougov poll released earlier this week. Again, if you take the Republican votes away from Klobuchar in my "fair poll" and give them to Bills, the numbers look like this: Klobuchar 46.8% and Bills 38.6%

I would really like to see a poll where the Democrat/Republican percentages are similiar and not skewed to one party. Remember the last two big elections in Minnesota, 2008 U.S. Senate and 2010 Minnesota Governor were decided by less than 1% of the votes, which means there is a very even split between Republican voters and Democrat voters.

If I was a red state republican, this would amp me up to support him. Not sure what kind of affect this will have if targeted at Paul supporters. Considering what the Det Free Press did in their meddling for Cassis and Taj, this is a good sign.
 
Republicans hire the most idiotic campaign people EVER! I can't believe Scott Brown and Kurt Bills have such horrible people in their employ.

In the Senate race Amy Klobuchar has expanded her already wide lead from 19 points to
26 over the last month. She's at 57% to 31% for opponent Kurt Bills. Klobuchar probably
would have been unbeatable for any opponent. She's one of the most popular Senators in
the country with 59% of voters approving of her to 27% who disapprove. But Bills has
proven to be particularly weak. Last month his name recognition in the state was 41%.
Now it's actually dropped to 38%. He's not making himself any better known to the
voters.

This last 1 didn't copy correctly but it means the Independents support the incumbent 59% to 29%. 13% of Republicans support the incumbent but only 4% of Democrats support Bills. MN is a Democratic state. The GOP candidate has to win the Independents to win an election. Bills is losing among them, losing badly.

This is all very sad. I fear that the liberty movement in MN is going to lose a lot of ground if Bills gets beaten by a huge margin.

Of course, you won't see any Bills advertisements on TV because fundraising has been tepid and the GOP establishment has completely stood down in this race. They want him to get obliterated to humiliate the Ron Paul faction.

On top of that, Romney is trailing bad in this state, and it's tainting every Republican all the way down. The stupid gay marriage amendment is going to bring out lots of people who will vote straight Democrat as well because it is tugging on irrational emotional heartstrings.

I am so pissed at the GOP for pushing this thing onto the ballot. They are receiving major blowback because of it -- riling up leftists and gay sympathizers who would otherwise be apathetic. I predict it will cost them many close races for state level offices and maybe a few House seats like Chip Cravaack. Thanks, radical right, for pounding those nails into your party's coffin with an issue that should have been voted on last century.

I wish Bills had decided to save it until 2014. Ah well, hopefully he can tighten the race to avoid total destruction and claim John Kline's House seat in a few more years...

You may be completely correct. You know MN better than I. The views of voters on same sex marriage is slowly changing. However, every time in the US that same sex marriage has been on the ballot, it has helped the GOP. The GOP keeps putting it on the ballot because it helps their candidates.

Will 2012 people the year opposing same sex marriage actually hurts the GOP? If so, this is an interesting development.
 
I only know two things for sure. There are only 25 days until the election. And that makes only 25 days left to work to get Bills elected. Secondly, if I've learned anything from polls vs election day results.... polls this far out don't mean squat.
