There had been this notion around that "conservative Democrat" Biden was a 'very slow speed progressive' but his latest leadership initiatives could change that perception:

President Biden marked the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia on Monday by calling on dozens of countries — and half of the states in the union — to strengthen anti-discrimination protections for the L.G.B.T.Q. community.
“Both Covid-19 and rising authoritarianism around the world continue to widen economic, social and safety gaps for LGBTQI+ people — and an epidemic of violence still rages, with a particular impact on the transgender community,” Mr. Biden said in a statement commemorating the day, which takes place on the anniversary of the World Health Organization’s move in 1990 to declassify “homosexuality” as a mental disorder.
“Around the world, some 70 countries still criminalize same-sex relationships,” he said. “And here at home, LGBTQI+ Americans still lack basic protection in 25 states, and they continue to face discrimination in housing, education and public services.”

And just 3 years ago, interracial gay couples couldn’t get married in every state in America. Our family is thankful for #LovingDay and the universal truth that #LoveIsLove (even if you don’t want to bake us a cake):

Biden taps gay Obama staffer Gautam Raghavan for Office of Presidential Personnel

Former Obama White House staffer will be entrusted with recruiting and vetting more than 4,000 government appointees

President-elect Joe Biden has tapped Gautam Raghavan, a gay man who previously served as a White House staffer in the Obama administration, to serve as Deputy Director of the Office of Presidential Personnel.

In his new role, Raghavan will be tasked with identifying, recruiting, and vetting more than 4,000 political appointments across the federal government.
Raghavan, the former Associate Director of Public Engagement and chief liaison to both the LGBTQ and Asian-American communities, is currently part of Biden’s transition team, and has worked with the LGBTQ Victory Institute to identify qualified out LGBTQ people worthy of appointments.

But would Biden be able to come close to achieving the level of success that last GOP POTUS and LGBTQ rights trailblazer DJ Trump or even his former boss Obama had achieved?
Time will tell but won't be easy for him to fill their big shoes when it comes to issues like lifestyle diversity and LGBTQ civil rights.

Trump admin. launches global effort to end criminalization of homosexuality
Feb. 19, 2019
BERLIN — The Trump administration is launching a global campaign to end the criminalization of homosexuality in dozens of nations where it's still illegal to be gay, U.S. officials tell NBC News, a bid aimed in part at denouncing Iran over its human rights record.
U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, the highest-profile openly gay person in the Trump administration, is leading the effort, which kicks off Tuesday evening in Berlin. The U.S. embassy is flying in LGBT activists from across Europe for a strategy dinner to plan to push for decriminalization in places that still outlaw homosexuality — mostly concentrated in the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean.
“It is concerning that, in the 21st century, some 70 countries continue to have laws that criminalize LGBTI status or conduct,” said a U.S. official involved in organizing the event.

Trump hails Bollywood film with gay romance ahead of India visit

by Madison Dibble | February 21, 2020
President Trump welcomed the news that Bollywood is producing a film featuring gay characters.
In a tweet Friday, Trump said it was "great” that a new romantic comedy produced in India would feature gay characters less than a year and a half after homosexuality was decriminalized in that country.
He retweeted the announcement from Peter Tatchell, a gay rights activist, who wrote, “A new #Bollywood rom-com featuring a gay romance is hoping to win over older people, following the decriminalisation of homosexuality. Hurrah!”

There have been rumors of his ties to controversial Robert Byrd. But Biden's from a different generation and grew up in a very different America, to be fair. Though he's only 4 years older than Trump, Trump in contrast is extraordinarily progressive and liberal for his age group on issues like LGBTQ rights, diversity, social justice, big gummit, big spending, gambling, universal helthcare etc.
