Bernie Sanders raises $33 million

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...02/bernie-sanders-raises-33-million/78207096/

Bernie Sanders raised more than $33 million during the last three months of 2015 to underwrite his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, his campaign announced Saturday. His haul puts him within $4 million of the $37 million raised by Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton during the same period.

In all, the Vermont senator has raised nearly $73 million for his White House battle, campaign officials said. Aides said more than 1 million donors made more than 2.5 million contributions to Sanders' campaign, surpassing President Obama's previous record for individual contributions. (Obama had collected 2.2 million contributions at this stage in his re-election campaign.)

"This people-powered campaign is revolutionizing American politics," Jeff Weaver, Sanders' campaign manager, said in a statement. "What we are showing is that we can run a strong national campaign without a super PAC and without depending on millionaires and billionaires for their support."

Campaign aides said the average donation during the October-to-December fundraising quarter was $27.16.

Sanders appears to be spending more heavily as the first round of voting nears. His campaign said he ended December with $28.4 million in available cash out of the nearly $73 million raised.

Clinton, who collected $112 million in 2015 for her nomination battle, had a bigger cash balance at year's end -- nearly $38 million, according to figures her campaign released Friday.

Two of the Republicans seeking the presidency have released their fundraising totals. Ben Carson and Sen. Ted Cruz raised $23 million and $20 million, respectively, in the last quarter. Cruz's haul is a big jump from the $12.2 million he raised during the third quarter of the year and comes as he has emerged as a serious rival to Republican front-runner Donald Trump in Iowa.

Candidates have until Jan. 31, the eve of the Iowa caucuses, to disclose details of their fundraising and spending to federal regulators.

Definition of cognitive dissonance, throwing millions of dollars at a politician and then running around complaining about money in politics.

The only thing that separates the average Bernie Sanders supporter from any establishment tycoon bankrolling someone like Bush is that individually the former doesn't have the money to do what the latter does. Mark my words, any one of these idiots throwing money at Sanders would be no different than someone like Sheldon Adelson if they had that same amount of money.

I helped a little bit with that $33 million.

Donated $5. Got a free bumper sticker, it was pretty sweet.

Looking forward to more free stuff like that

If you go to de*mocratic underground, 90% of those peeps hate Hillary, and supporting Sanders. I think Hillary is all news media propaganda ... Not many demos give a chit about her, but she owns the stations.

I'm hoping Bernie drops out after Super Tuesday and some of these antiwar socialist support Rand in the latter states.

Why is he not running third party? He has raised a ton of money and you know it won't be enough to take down the Clinton war machine. He could poll @ 15% and change the system in a big way, especially if he went third party and got 5%, ensuring them total ballot access the next go around.

Just saying, this guy is supposed to be a populist candidate and isn't really even a democrat...feel like he could be using his bankroll in a more meaningful way.

This country desperately needs more parties. If there is anything the country can and should unite on, is dumping the thought we are a two party system. Europe has even been forced to accept more parties. Our legacy as a group to Ron Paul should be to force more party choices, where they can and must have the right to be on the ballot.

He would rather keep Hillary's flock in the Democrat pin. He is a sheepdog. That is what sheepdogs do. They herd sheep. How can anyone get excited about Hillary? A Wall Street owned warmonger who comes off cold and calculated. Bernie is a warmonger too but not as evil. He can get the young socialist blood pumping then pass them off to Hillary to be devoured. It is a shame that the left and right can't go for a unity third party candidate to end Wall Streets/armaments industries grip on the economy, restore our liberties, and end the Empire.

Sheepdogs are a Democrat tradition: http://blackagendareport.com/bernie-sanders-sheepdog-4-hillary

People wasted millions of dollars on that sheepdog.
