With all 307 precincts reporting in the 11th congressional district special primary election Wednesday, Republican Kerry Bentivolio of Milford easily won the election over former state Sen. Nancy Cassis, his closest rival.

He won with 10,280 votes in Wayne and Oakland counties, to Cassis’ 8,804. They were running to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of U.S. Rep. Thad McCotter, R-Livonia. Bentivolio will advance to a special general election on Nov. 6, where he will face David Curson, of Belleville, who was the only Democrat on the primary ballot.

The other Republicans running were: Kenneth Crider, who received 1,208 votes, Carolyn Kavanagh, who got 2,654 votes and Steve King, who got 1,715 votes.

I didn't realize this until now but Bentivolio will not be facing Syed Taj for the 7 week term that is to be filled, he will be facing this David Curson guy. So he will have 2 different opponents in 2 different races on the November 6th ballot, one against Syed Taj for the normal 2 year term and one against David Curson for the 7 week term.

Surprising to see the Cassis people still turning out to that degree.

Oakland County is probably the richest county in the state and filled with establishment types, and he basically tied her there. He beat her soundly in the less affluent (more in tune with reality) Wayne County. She was on the ballot this time as well. The polling place I stood outside of was extremely pro-Kerry, but I was in his hometown.

Her name is simply more well known in certain portions of Oakland co where she was a former state senator. Plus, many of the dems that turned out voted for her. The in-the-know dems know that Cassis would not be able to turn out the grassroots to vote for her plus it would damage Kerry's momentum. Obviously, most people had no idea nor cared about this special election yet since precincts are at schools, the teachers know to vote before they head home.

Just got back to our hotel room after the state convention's post Bentivolio/Amash shindig, currently watching the Tigers/Angels. The one bar inside the Amway Grand had around 400 guests and mostly delegates/alts @ $10 a pop and you could hardly move around. We got there right when it started and got a table, while most of the others stayed at their caucus and wasted time electing electors that were bound to R-money. We didn't even vote but left early to get our spots at the party. Had some good food and local beers, bout to wind down at get ready for picking party nominees tomorrow morning @ 9. Lot more Paul folk here than I expected despite a lot of our leaders sitting this one out so all the noobs could get in and get their feet wet. I probably wouldn't have wasted the money except for my bro needed to get involved.

I was there too. Talked a little bit with Amash.

I'm voting for:

U of M Regent: Carol Ann Fausone & Dr. Steele
MSU: Anne Norlander
Board of Ed: Melanie Kurdys & Todd Courser

The rest I have no idea. I might just leave the ballot blank unless someone wow's me right before the vote.
