The U.S. military involvement in Libya should prompt lawmakers to rethink U.S. involvement in NATO, Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said Tuesday.

Frank, a longtime critic of military spending, said that NATO no longer serves its original purpose, and that it serves as more of an excuse for European nations to involve the U.S. military in problems that European governments might not be able to solve themselves.

"I think the time has come to reexamine NATO," Frank said on MSNBC. "NATO has become an excuse for other people to get America to do things."

Spoken like a true 'Silver Tongued Lawyer' I still remember him @ a Bernake/Financial Services Committee hearing a couple of years ago... Frank opening statement with a propaganda shot directed at Ron Paul in basically, "This is the monetary system we have in America and we are not going to change it, as some here want to do..."

NATO NOW? Barney Frank has been in Congress for 30 years... Where yah been bud?

It is past time for the U.S. to rethink NATO. It's also past time for Massachusetts to rethink Frank.

Frank's not too bad a guy. He should primary Obama.

Yeah, I'm sure he's great to hang out with wearing a lei and sipping on a Pina Colada (), but this guy has been a travesty to the foundations of this country through his own uneducated (or maniacal), egotistical, and arrogant behavior as a sitting congressman. I shun your statement, sir.

if REP. BARNEY FRANK now plunged into the SUPER~TUESDAY Sweepstakes,
BARACK OBAMA would look WAY more centrist. --if ONLY noble intrepid
Mr. Frank directly runs against our sitting POTUS for the presidency, we see
a very happy POTUS! i think OBAMA is trying to steal the flipflop indies
away from mitt romney before the trumpster gets a ross perot 'thingie' up!

I agree ... and by that logic, let's rethink US involvement in the UN.
