ST. PAUL, Minn. - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann is deflecting questions about federally subsidized health dollars that have flowed to her husband's mental health clinic.

As the tea party hero tours the nation attacking the size of federal government, the Minnesota congresswoman has come under heightened scrutiny over public dollars flowing to family business interests. That includes $137,000 that Bachmann and Associates has received for treating patients in Medicaid-backed programs.

Bachmann press secretary Alice Stewart issued a statement Wednesday contending that it "would be discriminatory" for the clinic to turn away Medicaid patients. She says Marcus Bachmann's business has the responsibility to provide the care "regardless of a patient's financial situation."

Neither Michele nor Marcus Bachmann would respond to questions about the arrangement during a campaign stop in South Carolina.

It going to family is the real issue but subsidies I believe are either take them or they go elsewhere. Don't quote me on it but odds are someone will jump in

she is NO tea party candidate though

People try and say Ron Paul isn't electable, but it makes you wonder what that really means. Does he need to be crooked, a flip flopper or stuffed in the pockets of some big donator?

It's sad what people consider electable these days.

Ron Paul is MY Republican Frontrunner!!!!

Michele can go back to funneling money to her hubbies biz and see how the tea party likes that.

Hey Michele,
Ron wants his tea party back
thanx,

p.s. can you clean it off first, you got it all gross hiding in the bushes
p.p.s. also can you let your followers know that the tea party does NOT mean foreign occupations OR nation building at home either

"Ugh - "Tea Party hero"

She may well be. How many old geezers carries signs saying "Don't Touch My Medicare" at the Tea Party rallies?

I heard someone saw Marcus driving on a road, too.

I don't know. I just don't think this is the same as attacking someone for using farm subsidies, for example.

Accepting standard forms of payment to treat mental health patients is a non-issue to me. Would I get rid of Medicaid? Sure. in an ideal world none of the fake medical "insurance" would exist. Doctors would have completely transparent rates and accept gold coins. I don't see that ever happening.

We all know health care financing is messed up, but if everyone who is 1% less principled than Ron Paul is evil, that's just about everyone.

Stick with the Patriot Act and things Mi Bachmann does rather than attacking her husband for treating poor mental patients ( who would likely do more harm to society without Medicaid), IMHO.

I can fault her over a lot of things but this isn't one of them; I mean; I'm a Ron Paul supporter who supports ending Medicare yet I sell insurance and my biggest market is the Seniors with Medicare supplements. Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D drug plans, we have to live by the cards we're dealt.
