What's up part-time interventionists? Should we bomb Turkey?

STANBUL, Turkey - As ISIS has grown, it's used neighboring Turkey, a key U.S. ally, as its staging ground.

For three years, the Turkish government has allowed fighters to stream across its borders into Syria, driven by its desire to topple Syria's dictator, Bashar Al-Assad.

In 2012, CBS News interviewed Mahmoud, a bulldozer salesman from Atlanta, Georgia who returned to his homeland to join the battle against the Syrian regime.

"We come in and out," he said at the time. "The Turkish they are closing eyes, when we cross."

Islamic extremists also took advantage of the Turkish turning a blind eye.

In December, CBS News filmed men crossing illegally into the war zone in broad daylight.

Many militants have been treated in Turkish hospitals, and set up safe houses in Turkish border towns.

And in a Turkish government refugee camp two years ago CBS News met Syrian men who said they regularly crossed back into Syria to fight, and wanted to establish an Islamic state.

The Turkish government says it's never helped ISIS, and considers it to be a terrorist group.

But Hursit Gunes, a member of Turkey's opposition, claims his government has allowed ISIS to flourish because it prefers the group to the Syrian regime.

He even accuses the Turkish authorities of ignoring the militants' lucrative oil smuggling business on Turkey's border.

"That money could be stopped," said Gunes. "The money they get from smuggling could be stopped if the Turkish government and the neighbor countries had decided that they shouldn't get a coin."

A Turkish government official told CBS News 6,000 foreigners are now banned from Turkey because of fears they could slip across the border to fight with ISIS in Syria or Iraq. But he also said that Turkey has a 500-mile-long border with Syria, and it's simply impossible to stop everyone who wants to join the cause of the Islamic extremists.

Don't give them ideas.

Bombing Turkey would be a tad bit more difficult seeing as how they have patriot missiles that we gave them lol

WASHINGTON — The United States is extending its commitment of two Patriot missile batteries to guard Turkey from air attacks out of neighboring Syria, defense officials said Monday.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel told Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu that the United States would provide the batteries for an additional year during a meeting at the Pentagon early Monday. Turkey had requested the extension on Nov. 8.

Along with the U.S. missiles, contributions over the past year from the Netherlands and Germany brought the number of Patriot batteries guarding Turkey’s southern flank to six, all of them under NATO command.

“This renewal of the Patriot deployment is and will remain defensive only and represents a concrete demonstration of alliance solidarity and resolve,” assistant Pentagon press secretary Carl Woog said in an emailed statement after the meeting.

Turks are gonna learn a hard lesson when ISIS take that river.

With all this help. Training from the U.S. army, a base of operations in Turkey, funding from Saudi Arabia, these retards still can't take Syria but we are supposed to believe they can take over the whole world? Ridiculous.

Question, do they actually want Syria ? It would mean a border with Israel. What would happen then ?

None of thats even true

Because you said so?

Training from the U.S. army:
Members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIS, were trained in 2012 by U.S. instructors working at a secret base in Jordan, according to informed Jordanian officials.
The officials said dozens of ISIS members were trained at the time as part of covert aid to the insurgents targeting the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Syria. The officials said the training was not meant to be used for any future campaign in Iraq.

The Jordanian officials said all ISIS members who received U.S. training to fight in Syria were first vetted for any links to extremist groups like al-Qaida.

Funding from Saudi Arabia:
He does not doubt that substantial and sustained funding from private donors in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, to which the authorities may have turned a blind eye, has played a central role in the Isis surge into Sunni areas of Iraq.

Where do you think ISIS gets their weapons from? They made it themselves?

Because you said so?

Um, no, because none of your "evidence" supports what you say. The editor's note from the first article says:
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Since publication, this story has been corrected to clarify that the fighters trained in Jordan became members of the ISIS after their training.]

also

The officials said dozens of future ISIS members were trained at the time as part of covert aid to the insurgents targeting the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Syria

Wow twomp... dozens! Out of their... oh, 100,000 fighters. But still! Dozens!

Second source... being treated at Turkish hospitals = base of operations ????? Haha, ok there buddy.

Third source
Dearlove says that he has no inside knowledge obtained since he retired as head of MI6 10 years ago to become Master of Pembroke College in Cambridge.

And Saudi Arabia is firmly against ISIS because they have competing ideologies, but to a layman, they may think they are the same ideology. This is why the muftis in saudi arabia (who carry great weight in the saudi citizens' eyes, condemned IS as apostates).
