Iowa
10/17 - 10/18
400 likely caucus goers
+/-4.9%

Mean age of respondents is 66 years old.

Cain 25.0%
Romney 21.5%
Paul 8.3%
Bachmann 6.5%
Gingrich 5.8%
Perry 5.3%
Santorum 4.0%
Huntsman 1.0%

Poll was just released today but is three weeks old. There are a lot of interesting stats from this article:

http://caucuses.desmoinesregister.c...ith-their-candidates-on-entitlement-programs/

Texas Congressman Ron Paul, third in the poll at 8.3 percent, is known more than any other candidate for opposing Social Security and Medicare.

Only 18.2 percent of Paul’s Iowa supporters agree that Social Security is too big. Only 24.2 percent said Medicare should cut.

The poll shows 65 percent of Republicans planning to caucus would rather withdraw troops from Iraq and Afghanistan than see Social Security cut. Slightly more, 67.3 percent, said the same for Medicare.

The older folks want to withdraw troops before entitlements are cut; yet that's exactly what Paul proposes and the only candidate proposing that. Seems like this message needs to get out to the Iowa seniors.

Yep, they know somethings gotta be cut. If they were allowed to hear Ron's message they would be all over it.

Yes! This could easily be one of the largest demographics to move. Get into those senior centers. These individuals are from the same generation and speak often with each other.
His policies are spot on and they would love him if presented in the correct way.

Give him money, the campaign can tailor ads to these stats. Sounds like the foreign policy debate coming up won't be so bad as long as he gives the Suez Canal answer and specifically mentions that the wars are threatening national security for economic reasons, and these programs will be the first things to be cut to fund the wars further. That, or higher taxes.

Dr. Paul's plan is the only one out there that will save SS/Medicare. Cain's plan at best, would further tax their income and doesn't 999 instantly do away with SS/Medicare? If they're so scared the Dr. Paul will take them away, they should take a much closer look at 999. The devil's in the details.

The mean age tells you everything you need to know about the poll = irrelevant.

To all the other candidates it's a fairly accurate poll, but we all know Ron has a massive youth following who will show up at the caucus'.

3 week old poll. Before the Cain scandel, and Perry's brain freeze. And we are 3rd with almost 10%, among our weakest demographic! Not to mention that according to a recent Iowa article I saw, alot of seniors who have caucused before, are sitting this one out! I am feeling good about Iowa! Let's make 11-11-11 BIG!

You have a lot to learn about GOP primaries. Seniors are NOT irrelevant. They are one of the large voting age groups in primaries. More will vote than young people. These numbers are not as bad as I suspected.

exactly. The youth make up a very small portion of the GOP base. Yeah they help us but we will have to win with seniors if were going to try and win the caucus.

Wrong, we have to focus on seniors.

If you haven't noticed, young people are only getting us 10%
