A question regarding free speech

I was reading an argument on a messageboard on a different site discussing the act of flag burning.

1. When one user stated that people have the right to desecrate flags in public parks, a different user posed the question: "Should people be allowed to dump crude oil and burn it in a public park as a gesture of free speech/expression?"

2. What about the argument that burning a flag is littering and vandalism that could damage the public park and therefore authority figures have the right to punish someone who litters or vandalizes a public park while burning a flag?

How should one respond to these arguments while staying within the argument about what occurs in that public park without mentioning privatization?

I certainly disagree with all the above arguments but what would be the best defense arguments?

Can someone also address the stupid argument that the 1st Amendment should allow for the protection of libel and slander? It seems to be a common argument for opposing the 1st Amendment.
