A Question about the Gold Standard

Does Ron Paul advocate pinning the value of paper money to gold as a mean to stop inflation (but not issue actual gold currency), or does he want us to switch to using gold money?

I'm pretty sure Ron Paul prescribes to the Rothbardian policy of a 100% Gold Dollar. This would be a non-fractional reserve banking policy where your dollar is essential a demand deposit for your gold.

This would mean that a banks storage of your personal property (gold) would be treated as a bailment (such as grain stored in an elevator) rather than as a debt. There would be no bank run because individual banks that started to commit fraud by selling your personal property to speculators on the market would soon be out of business and be liable for this act of fraud.

Thank you very much for that video. Every time I get disillusioned by the rabid, overzealous attitude of many Ron Paul supporters, I just have to listen to the guy himself, and my faith is restored that he is a sane, rational guy with his feet very much planted on the ground.

1. I don't believe that the other candidates are evil monsters, but that Ron Paul thinks just that much more clearly than them and has far more commitment to principles.

2. I don't believe that the mainstream media is controlled by nameless conspirators. The people who write and report the news are just like you and me, they have their own beliefs and ideals, and have just not yet been exposed to the ideas of Ron Paul and that is why they sometimes ignore Paul. This is by-and-large not done deliberately or with malice. Of course, some of them clearly hold beliefs that are quite contrary to what Paul and his supporters believe in, but the least effective way of winning them over to our point-of-view is by cop-out accusations that they are somehow mind-controlled and are "puppets" of shadow governments and organizations.

I don't know if I'm right but I sometimes get the feeling that many of the posters here at ronpaulforums.com probably aren't even old enough to vote!

I am. It'll be my first time though. Good timing for Dr. Paul. At any rate, it makes sense. Going straight to gold rather than using paper money that's pinned to the value of gold is probably more secure - it's less prone to later tampering.

Ron Paul is in favor of legalizing other currencies so people can choose what they want to use. I don't believe we have anywhere near the gold reserves to go to a fully-reserved gold-backed standard all at once. And even if we did, the effect of this switch to gold prices (and its industrial application) could be huge and disastrous.

I think many of them are evil, I don't know about the monsters part. They follow their song and dance for corporate money and a constituency they really don't care about but have to pander to. Why do you think Bush talked about simplifying the tax code and never did, neither do most politicians go through with their promises. They are just tickling our ears and could care less.

"They" often try to paint RP as a nut as if he has no sense on HOW to make such transitions. I like that he is getting more opportunities to explain how we can implement his ideas.
