Election conspiracy theorist and attorney Lin Wood claimed on Sunday that former President Donald Trump is a "genius" who was playing high-level political chess when he endorsed Wood's South Carolina primary rival prior to an election he went on to lose Saturday.
The vehemently pro-Trump lawyer, who helped lead the former president's election challenges, failed to defeat South Carolina GOP chairman Drew McKissick's re-election bid yesterday. Wood, who vowed to bring "chaos" to the state's Republican Party, told his Telegram app followers that McKissick is a "cheater" who should be labeled "Fake Chairman." Wood issued a statement online Sunday that sought to push back against critics who mocked him because Trump endorsed McKissick. Wood insisted Trump is up to some grand plan that the public simply can't understand.

Republicans in South Carolina decisively rejected Atlanta attorney Lin Wood’s bid to chair the state party Saturday, reelecting incumbent Drew McKissick over the die-hard Trump supporter, who has drawn scrutiny over his wild allegations of vote-rigging in the 2020 presidential election.

More than 67% of the South Carolina GOP’s 861 delegates voted for McKissick at their convention Saturday, handily defeating Wood, who drew 28% of the vote, and two smaller challengers, party spokesperson Claire Robinson confirmed to Forbes.
In a Telegram post Saturday afternoon, Wood wished McKissick luck but claimed he won his bid for a third term in an “establishment created election.”
McKissick earned former President Donald Trump’s endorsement in March, but Wood cast himself as a more strident and committed Trump supporter, campaigning for McKissick’s job by vowing to keep contesting the results of last year’s presidential election, which Trump lost.
