What is the Burning Porcupine Festival?
Burning Porc is a week-long camping event to showcase beautiful, rural Grafton, the freest town in the free state. Grafton boasts a higher concentration of liberty activists than any of the other liberty hotspots in New Hampshire such as Keene or Manchester.
Camping at Hoyt Farm is free, but donations are always appreciated.
Toward the beginning of the week, Burning Porc is lightly attended, but things pick up toward the end of the week. The crew who organized Grafton’s first Liberty Love Fest last year will be bringing live bands and music to Burning Porc on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening.
Tours of Grafton will be given throughout the week. Currently a tour is planned for Thursday, but we can hold more if people want them. We can show off liberty hotspots such as Liberty Lane and Peaceful Assembly Church, and show available real estate around town.
What is Peaceful Assembly Church?
Peaceful Assembly Church (PAC), a church founded in 2010 by liberty activist and pastor John Connell, is located in the center of Grafton, at 860 Main Street. PAC is open to all who believe in peace and forgiveness. The church will be open throughout the week; if the Pastor is out, the open sign will be unlit. Also check the church’s Facebook page to keep up to date on what’s going on.
Where do I find stuff in Grafton?
Unfortunately the only convenience store in town, the Grafton Country Store, recently closed. However, both surrounding towns, Danbury and Canaan, have similar stores, where you can buy food, ice, beer, or whatever you need for the week. Canaan also has a fairly decent pizza restaurant, Canaan Village Pizza, and a Chinese restaurant, the Golden Ming. Further west on Route 4 in West Lebanon, you will find things like real grocery stores, department stores, and chain restaurants. The closest state-monopoly liquor store is in Bristol, another in West Lebanon.
There is free wi-fi at the Grafton Public Library (26 Library Road). You can access the wi-fi from the library parking lot even when the library is closed.
Cell phone service is sporadic in Grafton. Verizon tends to have the best coverage. The Peaceful Assembly Church parking lot (near the Planet Aid clothing bin) seems to be a good spot to get a signal if you can’t anywhere else.
What facilities are available at Hoyt Farm?
Port-a-potties are available right at the Hoyt Farm, and the shower is currently being rebuild and replaced, and should be available by Tuesday or Wednesday. There is a cold-water spigot available and once the shower is in place, there will be hot running water, too.
Toward the end of the week, we will have food vendors selling hamburgers, hotdogs, and more.
What other stuff should I know?
Please be courteous to the people living on the property. The camping area is as far as possible from the farm house on the property so as to minimize the noise they have to hear. Please try to be quiet after midnight.
The family living there has chickens and a dog, so please keep your own dogs on a leash or otherwise under control at all times.
We shouldn’t have to tell fellow liberty folk this, but since we all live in a society where they have to put do not eat warning labels on packets you find in new shoes, I’ll be explicit: You are responsible for your own behavior on the property. You understand coming to Burning Porc is at your own risk and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Burning Porc organizers, agents, employees, and property owners, for any claims of injury or damages.
Maybe as dozens more move to Grafton, some Internet geeks or Facebook addicts will move there and keep us better posted about what's happening in Grafton? Maybe all of that freedom up there is getting to them
