20 year old woman shot and killed after going to wrong house

I never said there was any limitation. I said the 2nd amendment is rooted in the militia. And that's true. That's why in reality you should be able to own a machine gun. The 2nd amendment was never about shooting deer and turkey.
Unless of course your attacker identifies as a deer or turkey.

I was referring to your argument about reverse-engineering it to say people over 45 can't own a gun because they can't be in a militia.

The reason we should be allowed to own machine guns is because the right to bear arms cannot be infringed, not because of the militia. It's a definitive statement, the militia is just a reason they happened to list.

Clarification. If you are old as dirt to the point that dementia has set in you aren't fit for militia service or gun ownership. But there should be a process to determine that. Like when they put someone under a conservatorship and take away the right to a drivers license, contract etc.

If that needs to be done, I don't think it does, it should definitely not be happening at the federal level and it should also not be done pre-emptively unless the person has proven themselves to be a danger to the community.

Conservatorships are done at the local level. Federal law states that if you are judged mentally incompetent you can't own a gun but there is no federal process I'm aware of to actually adjudge that.
