American Killed in Libya protest over film

What makes people think Stevens was being dragged through the streets, instead of being discovered by supportive Libyans who came after the attack was over? I saw video of him apparently being carried out of a building, and the pictures here don't necessarily show him being dragged. One man was...

Gary Johnson Embarrassing Gary Johnson Political Ad

I think the dancing is meant to jokingly emphasize "We're not a Party." I think it works if people get that.

Dumbest Judge Judy ever: "Only a licensed teacher is qualified to teach."

She gets into a long monologue about this a few minutes into the clip. I'm sure your comments will be welcomed. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFYw483F_eI&feature=g-vrec

My relatives make 20k a year, and live better lifestyles than me making 100k

I didn't get it all either (btw, he did say he does *not* eat out) , but that wasn't his main point. I will stand corrected when he comes back and emphasizes that he only came here to cry about himself. :) I'd like to see the welfare goodies and incentives accurately quantified in some way...

The guy's not looking for "sympathy." He resents studying, borrowing, and working his butt off so that others can loaf. I'm surprised we're so divided here. I don't think the welfare state has much to fear, with people bickering about so many peripheral issues.

The point is that other people's incentives are also our problem, in a society that holds us financially liable for them.

Then there's the issue of not having to spend 60% of your waking hours working, going to work, thinking about work, etc. But we need a lot more detail on this. Everyone I've known who works around homeless people doesn't tell me that they're desperately trying to acquire job skills. They seem...

My relatives make 20k a year, and live better lifestyles than me making 100k

Of course the numbers aren't accurate. But there's a reality that's somewhere in between, or we wouldn't be talking about a bloated welfare state that rewards people for not working, not marrying, and having children. The more important issue is not whether these guys have all their details...

My relatives make 20k a year, and live better lifestyles than me making 100k

I don't think the OP even cares about most of the points made in the discussion, because they probably don't address his main point, which is that he shouldn't have to work so much harder to be not that much better off. But we need numbers to show the true situation. Emmerich made a start here...

Like the other guy said, people are nitpicking at the details and not giving enough attention to the larger issue raised. Same with the Emmerich article picked apart by TNR. They were talking off the tops of their heads, but what they said is still largely true, or we wouldn't be in this forum...

Marginal rates at $80,000, if married: 7.65% SS and Medicare (15.3%, with half of it deductible, if self-employed) 15% federal 6% state So he's paying a marginal rate of at least 28.65%, with the effective rate of course being lowered by deductions, and lower rates being applied to part of his...

Finally, someone gets it. I was wondering if I was on the right forum, after reading some of the responses. "He just wants to diss the poor" is about what they say at TNR also, about a similar article: http://www.tnr.com/article/82962/conservatives-economic-chart-fox-de-rugy

CNN cuts off Cpl. Jesse Thorsen, Ron Paul lets him finish

Damn, maybe it's just as well, that CNN had their little mishap. His second appearance was definitely - in Paul's words - at Paul's invitation, and I'm assuming his first one on CNN was also. Paul may have forgotten the rule when he asked, and he was "starstruck" and wanted to please him. He...

Most of the primaries could have been won 4 years ago, if people had bothered to show up:

Here's an article from 2008, showing what would have been possible if half of the "supporters" the polls estimated there were had bothered to show up: http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig7/muratore7.html This time, with at least four times the base there was in 2008 to work from - and assuming the...
