I'm very surprised. My representative is a co-sponsor, and one of my senators is a co-sponsor for Rand! Emailed both of them saying thanks, and emailed my dumb senator letting her know my opinion.
The establishment was outnumbered and decided to ignore all calls for division and illegally ram through their slate, resulting in 0 Paul delegates today
It seems like it to me, but I'm not a delegate to the national convention. I'll ask our meetup if any of them are or know a lawyer who can look into it further.
I know in NC our delegates had to sign a form stating they would vote according to the primary results, otherwise they would have to pay $10,000 to the state party. I wonder if the campaign would be able to reimburse them if they voted for Paul?
I read somewhere that 4 of the seven went to Romney. If they all switch over to Paul, we have another win on our hands... now how can the campaign convince them to jump ship from the establishment?
We CAN say we have a 'win'... Paul has 20 delegates and Santorum has 2. Even if Romney miraculously sweeps the state convention and takes all 3 at-large delegates, he'd still only end up with 18. We already have the plurality, but it would be nice to take a strong majority :D
There would still be delegates who are bound to Santorum and Gingrich, so if the rest are semi-evenly split between Romney and Paul, it could likely result in a brokered convention.
His name will be on the 1st ballot.. just not any subsequent ballots in the event of a brokered convention.
I believe the 3 super-delegates are already guaranteed their spots at the national convention. Since they're not actually elected by the delegates' votes at the convention, I don't think that is possible.
Not 100% sure though.
Well, I'd assume that with Paul almost sweeping the conventions so far, we should have a majority at state. If that's the case, there's NOTHING they can do to stop us :D
Assuming the Paul delegates all show up to state, we should have a majority there and ensure that all 13 delegates from there are Paul supporters as well (based on the numbers out of the district conventions)
