    Monopoly and free markets

In most cases, the market is in control instead of it's participants. But, not in the case of a monopoly or oligopoly. Case in point. The hold on oil by OPEC. OPEC can pretty much control the price of oil. They can drive up the price of oil to $100. Well, the free market steps in and...

Student "Turned off" on Dr. Paul's stance on Global Warming

So, you see a documentary posted on Google video and decided man made global warming is hoax ? Have you researched who made this movie and what their motives could be ? Here, I will give you the starting point. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Global_Warming_Swindle

Student "Turned off" on Dr. Paul's stance on Global Warming

I would rather side with mainstream scientific opinion, and not the opinion of the Weather Channel founder. The majority of climate scientists agree that global warming is primarily caused by human activities such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation The conclusion that global warming is...

Student "Turned off" on Dr. Paul's stance on Global Warming

I was not arguing whether government should or should not regulate. That's a political issue. Whether global warming is caused by humans is a scientific issue. And there is consensus on that. Just because you don't agree with government regulation (I don't agree either) shouldn't be the...

Student "Turned off" on Dr. Paul's stance on Global Warming

We cannot think and decide on the global warming issue. There are lots of data over several decades to be analyzed to reach a conclusion. How is it possible to think and reach a conclusion on this without having comprehensive access to all the data and having the knowledge to analyze it? The...

Student "Turned off" on Dr. Paul's stance on Global Warming

I don't depend on Al Gore or Ron Paul to tell me about global warming. If you don't have time or money to take a course, read peer-reviewed scientific journals. There is absolute consensus among scientists that global warming is caused by human activity.

Lower dollar = higher exports is fallacy ?

http://edition.cnn.com/2005/BUSINESS/05/18/china.yuan/index.html This is what I have see repeatedly. That fixed exchange rate has been the focus of claims by critics in the United States that its prices from exported goods are artificially low. The low prices, critics say, put unfair pressure...

Lower dollar = higher exports is fallacy ?

Possible, but unlikely. What's more likely is a gradual depreciation of dollar spanning several years.. maybe several decades. If corporations realize that the weaker dollar is here to stay, there will revive manufacturing in US leading to higher exports. I understand that a weaker currency...

Lower dollar = higher exports is fallacy ?

Thanks AlienLanes. I am not trying to understand the *consequences* of a weak dollar. I am trying to understand what Ron Paul said about a weak dollar, that it will lead to higher exports is a fallacy. He didn't say a weaker dollar will transform US into a 3rd world economy.
