Should the Fed record dollars as equity or as liabilities?

For the record, I do not think inflation-hawk Ron Paul is serious about that, but the way it would work is this: The Fed would write off the US bonds, setting their asset value to zero. Equity [yes, equity!] would be reduced by the amount at which the bonds were previously carried. Now here is...

Should the Fed record dollars as equity or as liabilities?

Rpwl, "equity" is defined as the value of an ownership interest in property, e.g. shareholders' equity in a business. Surely you do not mean to suggest that when the Fed lends out a billion dollars, that the Fed's stockholder banks immediately should be credited with a billion dollars of profit...

Should the Fed record dollars as equity or as liabilities?

All fiat money is "borrowed into existence." It does not exist until someone borrows it from a bank, such as the Fed, and it ceases to exist when the borrower pays it back. When the Fed lends money into existence, it creates two accounts, one on the asset side and one on the liabilities side...

Should the Fed record dollars as equity or as liabilities?

Because the counterfeited money does not belong to the Fed. It belongs to the entity that the Fed lends it to. To the Fed it is a liability. On the other side of the ledger, the asset side, there is a corresponding entry for the borrower's note or bond or whatever. Here is a news flash. At any...

Should the Fed record dollars as equity or as liabilities?

Probably he is ignoring the hypothetical question because it has absolutely nothing to do with the original question. I can answer it. In a perfect world, the "transaction" would result in two entries, one on the asset side and one on the liability side. On the asset side would be the $10...

Should the Fed record dollars as equity or as liabilities?

The note (IOU) is an asset. The money loaned, when the bank puts it into the borrower's account, is a liability. Paul Or Nothing II is right. He has admirable patience too.

Should the Fed record dollars as equity or as liabilities?

Paper money that is loaned into existence by a bank is always recorded as a liability. Originally it was a genuine liability in the sense that it obligated the bank to redeem the notes in gold or silver on demand. The principles of double entry bookkeeping still require that it be recorded as a...

List constructive criticisms for HQ here

Sell the benefit, not the feature. Every good sales person knows that. The one issue on voters' minds right now is the economy, in particular fuel prices. The single most important message is how Ron Paul will stop the economic and foreign policy madness that is driving up prices. Bill...

    Widget was hacked... Proof enclosed.

I saw the numbers go down by 40 or 50K twice. My mom had to try three times to contribute late in the evening. I suspect a lot of contributions were lost. The rate fell during the last hour when the server kept getting clogged or clobbered.

    Did he make it?

One day total? What I want to know is what the one-day total was. I think the "This week" total on RonPaul2008 did not include the 400K or so from people who called their credit card numbers in, right? If so, we hit 6.3 - 6.4 million. Someone please clarify.

    Go Tancredo!

I've always come down hard on any kind of tricks or protests, but I have to admit this is funny. Tancredo is winning the Glenn Beck poll, from which Ron Paul is again excluded, as is "other." http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Glenn_Beck_Omits_Ron_Paul_s_Name_in_Home_Page_Poll
