Would the GOP recruit Ron for VP?

I was thinking if we keep placing solid 4th or better through the primaries if the GOP would concede a possible VP slot for Ron. I could maybe see this happening for Mitt and/or Thompson in hopes of attracting the Obama crowd into the GOP if Hillary is taking the Dem nomination. I could see this being explain to the rest of the establishment ' Yeah hes wrong on the war but hes got what it takes to make the economy work'

Would Ron buy into this?

I know Mitt totally misses the point on the war.. and the Constitution. Still, it would be good to have Ron talking in his ear I think, especially with the economy the way it is. It would also be good for the cause of Ron Paul republicans.

Thoughts?

I also would like to add that I have not discounted winning this thing.. most likely in a brokered convention. I just wanted to discuss.

I dont think so, i think on youtube or somewhere else i saw ron paul answering the same question.

He said unless the person has the same ideas as ron paul.

I discount any posturing statements, even from Ron in the primaries. Some influence is better than no influence right?

Ron right now is trying to win the nomination. Once that is decided circumstances change.

*LAUGHS*

Do you realize what we've said about the GOP? What we've said about the other candidates? What we've said about the "system" and the "establishment".. and you think they'd ASK him to be VP?

Good god, man.. they'll be thrilled if he just stays at 6%.

Romney-Paul would be a godsend for the White House Press Corps, as RP would be bashing the administration from the VP slot on a daily basis, eventually driving Romney batshit insane.

Hahah

This sort of thing is not out of the question. What the GOP needs is to distance itself from Bush, and putting up Paul is a clear, good way to do that.

Also, they are probably still afraid of a Paul third party despite the number of times Ron has said he isn't interested in that.

Yeah, I'd vote for that. In this administration all of the real decisions come out of the VP office anyway.

A hypothetical back at you: Would Ron Paul have a better chance of getting in the White House as a VP for one of the other GOP candidates, or by running third party?

The way I see it, even if Ron Paul is VP, the GOP candidate doesn't stand a chance in the general election, unless it is Ron Paul at the helm.

If Paul was to be vice president, I'd vote to get him in. That would never happen though... theres less chance of it happening than there is of Ron Paul becoming president.

I dunno. As much as I hate McCain people were jumping for him par on par with Hillary. If Hillary wins the nomination and Obama is NOT her VP... then maybe the GOP would throw caution to the wind and try to recruit Paul. I can also see them recruiting McCain. Obama on any ticket is a guaranteed win for the Democrats.

I think everyone in the GOP leadership knows Huckabee is damaged goods and more of a liability. I am not sure about Guiliani but to me it would be a pointless effort for expanding the base. Guiliani is a rehash of all of Mitts scripted positions except that Mitt is not as crazy as Guiliani.

I'd say it's a slim chance but if Romney or Huck was to get the nod and they agreed to do away with the national ID and many of these other executive laws Bush signed including the patriot act then perhaps Dr. Paul would consider it but I doubt it would happen.

I have a hard time seeing Paul team up with Huckabee. Romney perhaps.

Paul/Romney could be a winning ticket if the GOP abandons the neoconservatives.

VP has no real power. Not worth it. Paul would have to change his foreign policy views. I don't see that happening. I guess if the Repub candidate changed his views, then maybe. That's unlikely as well.

You forget that RP religiously follows the constitution... and under the constitution the VP has virtually no power. I think he would rather go back to congress with a precinct leader in every single precinct in the country.
That is a force to be reckoned with. Imagine the organized lobbying power we the grassroots would have for every single piece of legislation Dr. Paul would want to pass.

Yep.

Rmoney thinks that GHWB is a conservative, which should tell you a great deal about Mutt's political compass. Mutt is a corporatist, who may wish to make gov't "more efficient," but has no real desire to make it any smaller. In fact, he wants to force the MA healthcare plan on the rest of the country. He's one of those Republicans who believes that the GOP's role is to offer an "improved" version of every socialistic idea that Democrats propose: thesis + antithesis = synthesis. I doubt that Dr. Paul would accept, even if it were offered. Sure, he'd get a promotion to President of the Senate, but would be forced to subjugate his own agenda to the mindless socialism of Rmoney. I don't think he could do that, even if he tried. The perfect running mate for Rmoney would be Democratic Senator Evan Bayh.

This is what should occur if the nomination is not Ron's. He should return to Congress, and will literally be the most powerful voice in Congress with the strongest on the ground boots lobby in America. AIPAC will be a mere cockroach den compared to the bustling metropolis of an anthill we will have. Every press conference Rep Paul has will be big news and you tubed and discussed. The neocons will not be able to shuffle a single card out of place without massive action from the R3voLutionaries. This thing ain't gonna be over till we have this country back in the hands of its citizens and all domestic enemies and dual citizen traitors routed from our shores.

Best
Randy
