Wired: Internet Allows Libertarian to Run Amok

The image in the article is classic.

The guy who posted the article is clearly a fan.

He loves it!! He's using Geek cred words in it and says I LOVE IT!! LET'S GO PAUL! at the end.

Rock on. We're now internet hip.

:)

Too bad s/he (Adrienne So--male or female name?...I assume female, but I only yesterday accidentally referred to a male on this forum as "she," so I don't want to be wrong again...:o) doesn't seem to know that Ron Paul is a Republican who adheres to a (lowercase 'l') libertarian political philosophy (though he's not even a strict adherent since, for example, he is pro-life--and rightly so :D). He is not running in the (uppercase 'L') Libertarian Party, sister (or brother--whichever the case may be).
Anyway, I just thought I'd say that.

Ron Paul, the Libertarian fringe candidate favored by the "fringe media" -- that is, the trollers on the Internet -- made $3 million today in the the hugest, most gargantuan online fundraising event ever.

Oh, I think the person who wrote this knows which party Ron Paul currently belongs to. But don't forget that Ron Paul ran as a libertarian (big L) back in 1988. I would say Ron Paul does represent the libertarian wing of the republican party, just like Al Gore represents the green wing of the democratic party. (Of course this ignores the fact that Al Gore really isn't green in his personal life. But don't tell any of his fanatical supporters that.)

Really, I don't think this belongs in the "bad media" category. Consider the audience of Wired. These are NOT people who are turned off by the idea of being outside the "mainstream". Yes, some people you might be trying to reach may be put off by this article. But others (Wired's core audience) may actually like it.

As for abortion, Ron Paul is treating this from a libertarian stance. Let the states decide the issue instead of the federal government. That puts him at odds with "Let's ban all abortions at the federal level" pro lifers. And this is an important distinction as some of the people we're trying to win over are pro choice.

And here is yet another take on abortion from a libertarian perspective.
