Anyone else running Windows 7 yet and what are your thoughts thus far?

So far my experience has been phenomenal, 10- 15 less processes running while idle as compared to Vista, BF2's graphics are much sharper and colors are more vivid with the SAME SETTINGS (copied and pasted .con files for my profile). I can FINALLY use the latest WHQL nVidia drivers, under Vista I could not go above version 178 due to chronic BSOD's. (this is more than likely why my video quality is superior).

So far I'm going to say this is the best OS produced by M$. Highly recommended. :)

I avoided Vista at all costs, and stuck with XP Pro. I guess I'll eventually go to Win 7, but only for the DX10.

Running v 7.260 and it is running very well. No complaints here. Media management and networking are excellent.

I have been running 7 for a few weeks now and I am impressed.
MUCH smoother than vista.
MUCH quicker
Interface takes a bit of time, but it is not that bad.

Nope, Haven't even looked into it yet.
Running PCLinuxOS 2009, on laptop, home computer and my 84yr old Mom's computer.
I only use windows to play WoW.

Does it still need AV software?

I guess the question will be for a lot of us, is it worth ~$100 plus the hassle of reloading everything when the retail version comes out...

Funny you mention BF2. For some reason it started randomly closing and booting me to desktop under vista. I can't play it anymore, which is a shame because it is a decent game.

Its a little bit to get used to, but once you do it is pretty nice. I have some problems with program compatability here and there, but overall much better than vista.

I'll wait till it comes out in october and get it for free, that way I can use the compatibility checker program for it.

the OEM release has been circulating.

Yah I have OEM x64 with a permanent activation.

I also had random CTD's with Vista while playing BF2, after a while they just stopped though, like it worked itself out (even though I know that's illogical, it did). The ONLY hangup with Windows 7 and gaming thus far is when I apply patches to games I have to go into regedit>HKLM>Software>*whatever game I want to patch* and create a registry string labeled "InstallDir" with a value of its location (C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\) or the patches tell me it cannot find the specified game folder.

That depends on you, your surfing habits, what you click, if you DL warez...etc. Personally I don't have any installed. The only security I run are passive spyware appz. Spyware Blaster/SpyBot S&D for the immunization features.

That's a hell of a system running it there.

I have been using it since the "leak" back in December... that one caused random crashes due to a bad NIC driver, but since just before the RC it has been golden. I think around release 7000. I am running the RTM version now and it is pretty much great. I resisted upgrading to XP from 2000, I never upgraded to Vista, but Windows 7 is good to go.

Thx, the HDD should score higher, it's a WD Velociraptor @ 10k rpm, but I believe they save higher scores for SSD drives...

One thing that does bother me a bit is that I have Firefox pinned to my taskbar, and when I have multiple windows already open and wish to create a new separate window (not another tab) I can't just click the quickbar icon due to the preview feature in Windows 7. I have to click the start button and navigate to the firefox icon there... kinda annoying.

Realized this can be circumvented by holding shift and clicking the preview icon on the taskbar like shift clicking a link. Aggravation ended.

If you have a scroll wheel you can click that on the taskbar. Middle-click = new instance.
