Why September?

I've seen a few of you reference September as the time of major crisis economically. Why is that? Please pardon my ignorance on the subject. :o

Personally, I was just referencing the GOP convention, but historically equity markets have a rough time around the beginning of the fiscal year. From the current situation, the problems might not even wait until September or October.
