even though I don't like the man, I don't wish dementia, or loss of mental awareness on anyway; it's very very distressing, as the individual really doesn't know what's going on.

That, and after it's all said and done, and you're told about it (or you realize what you've just done), well, you may be coming to some sad realizations.
