It really should be in the economic forum but because I am putting out an actual biblical principle I thought it would be better posted here in the religious forum. Not because I don't want to offend everybody because I love the offense of the cross. I think there should always be choice.

Tithing affirms our spirit of giving. It is a simple to understand concept of getting what you give. Everything you do comes back to you.The Lord gave me life I have no problem giving him 10% is how I feel about it. Anyone who does not use this law to help themselves and others doesn't understand economics or currency. Currency is energy. How much current do you have? Question: "What does the Bible say about Christian tithing? Should a Christian tithe?"

Answer: Many Christians struggle with the issue of tithing. In some churches giving is over-emphasized. At the same time, many Christians refuse to submit to the biblical exhortations about making offerings to the Lord. Tithing/giving is intended to be a joy and a blessing. Sadly, that is sometimes not the case in the church today.

Tithing is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was a requirement of the Law in which the Israelites were to give 10 percent of the crops they grew and the livestock they raised to the tabernacle/temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). In fact, the Old Testament Law required multiple tithes—one for the Levites, one for the use of the temple and the feasts, and one for the poor of the land—which would have pushed the total to around 23.3 percent. Some understand the Old Testament tithe as a method of taxation to provide for the needs of the priests and Levites in the sacrificial system. https://www.gotquestions.org/tithing-Christian.html

The word "tithe" is mentioned in the New Testament only in three contexts. The first is Jesus saying that the Pharisees paying tithe on everything was a good thing to do, bu they omitted the "weightier matters of the law." (Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42) The second is the rich young ruler mentioning paying tithe among all of his other good works. (Luke 18:12) The third is the author or Hebrews (Paul?) mentioning that tithe was used for the priests and Levites. (Hebrews 7:5-9)

Jesus and Paul both taught that ministers of the gospel should be paid by the people they serve. (1 Corinthians 9:14, Luke 10:7) But the idea of a set amount is not stated. (See 2 Corinthians 9) In the early church some Christians gave all they had to the gospel. Tithe is a great starting point. And the end of the day what you give is based on your relationship with God.

Also I fully agree with your economic point. Setting aside 10% for God is a good way to establish a budget. You will do more with 90% budgeted than 100% not budgeted.

We are supposed to tithe where we are fed, so to speak. As long as someone is teaching correctly; chapter by chapter, verse by verse so you truly understand God's Word, you tithe to allow this teaching to expand so others can hear.

Malachi 3:10 KJV

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Matthew 23:23KJV

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Luke 11:42 KJV

But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
