On Morning Joe, they showed Russian tanks rolling into Georgia. Georgians shot down 2 Russian fighter planes. This whole region is a powder keg.

This is a very serious situation. Could definitely get out of hand very quickly. Especially with Georgia being backed by the West and vice versa.

What a miserable fate for a country to become The West's and Putin's little chessboard.

Of course. That area of the world is very rich in oil and natural gas. Can we say PIPELINES?

Well, I don't think I would classify this as our vested interest. But there's no denying that where there's oil, there are interested neocons...

It seems most like a diversionary tactic, to keep Russia distracted and busy while the US creates it's tomfoolery in Iran. Look at the build-up of naval vessels and other military we have sent to blockade shipments going to Iran in the past couple of days.

Coincidence? I think not. I am sure we have had some hand in fomenting the problems in Georgia and I imagine it was all carefully timed.

Looks like everybody is involved.

"The Russians may just bear with the pro-US Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili’s ambition to bring his country into NATO. But they draw a heavy line against his plans and those of Western oil companies, including Israeli firms, to route the oil routes from Azerbaijan and the gas lines from Turkmenistan, which transit Georgia, through Turkey instead of hooking them up to Russian pipelines.

In recent weeks, Moscow has repeatedly demanded that Jerusalem halt its military assistance to Georgia, finally threatening a crisis in bilateral relations. Israel responded by saying that the only assistance rendered Tbilisi was “defensive.”

This has not gone down well in the Kremlin. Therefore, as the military crisis intensifies in South Ossetia, Moscow may be expected to punish Israel for its intervention."

better yet, what is putin's death count compared to bush's?

I do hear you--I just doubt that you're giving the credit where it's actually due, that's all.

Is there any doubt that this Georgian excursion is Putin, even if he's no longer president of Russia?
