the one way we can put the Guy Fawkes controversy behind us, is with Trevor's idea for the Weekend of Liberty - the total 24 hour donation haul MUST exceed the amount raised on November 5th. That would completely eliminate the media's silly 'terrorist guy fawkes' angle. I think this is something every Ron Paul support can get behind regardless of your opinion on "the V movie" or Guy Fawkes.

As Trevor said in his post: "December 15th is Bill of Rights day and December 16th is The Boston Tea Party, That's a Saturday and a Sunday. A "weekend of liberty". I think it would play well with the press and could not be spun negatively." :D

That's not bad...

Pity the teaparty07.com site's been taking off - as there still seems to be great controversy over the domain name >_<

Though a redirect to weekendofliberty.com could be in order...

With the Weekend of Liberty, the "total 24 hour haul" becomes a 48 hour haul. It is a retarded plan that will do nothing to detract from anything because it won't be reported by the media.

Awesome Idea Jake!

I think those two days complement each other very well.

We need a catchier name than Weekend of Liberty though.

the idea is to have rallys on Saturday and the donation drive on Sunday.. so no, it would not be a '48 hour haul'

Hillary Clinton $6.1 million in one day is what we need to beat. If we don't beat it, we won't get nearly the amount of attention from the media.

always a naysayer to piss on people's optimism.....one would think after the Nov 5th successs you people would shut up

The Guy Fawkes controversy is already behind us. The story was the $4 million. Nobody heard the rest.

Oh really? The naysayers said Guy Fawkes would be the forefront of the news reported AND THEY WERE RIGHT!

It's true, the Guy Fawkes controversy has been minimal and for that I am REALLY grateful.

I'm all for another big moneybomb, but I bet alot of donators are tapped out and won't be ready for another HUGE run until probably at least the Tea Party timeframe.

TeaParty07.com is a great domain name. I like the two-day effort though, paired with the Bill of Rights Day on 12/15. The media will cover it, whether its 24 hours or 48, if we raise another 5-10 million.

Why not set up competing websites, and see which day can raise more?

I was the first to recommend this in the original topic wondering whether we should do one day or the the other. However I like how the idea has been fleshed out by others. I think Ron and perhaps even the campaign will actually be able to assist us especially with the bill of rights day. A Weekend of/for liberty is a great idea. We need to prove that we can raise money based on real ideals an not a movie bringing popularity to a date.

And for those begging for media attention, we need to get media attention for Ron being Ron, not by raising a whole bunch of money in one day. That is in the hands of the campaign and Ron himself. If he doesn't sell himself the media will not buy him. We're gonna raise a ton of money and that will huge for the campaign but all the media will talk about again is whether or not they should care.

Would you like to make a wager on that?

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but like it or not the media is going to spin everything we do. What we are trying to do is speak not to the media, but to the people of America. We have to prove the media very wrong which will discredit the ridiculous claims they have made about Ron Paul and us.

We are not: terrorists, spam, bots, 6 guys picking their noses and eating Hot Pockets in their mother's basement, a plague, anti-american, and most of us are not anarchists. Ron Paul is not: well, they've called him so many names I don't feel like listing all of them. So let's prove it, which means ignoring the media's insults as much as they love to ignore us. Unless that's what gets you fired up of course.

I personally don't think that beating Hillary is that big of a deal. We would have gotten just as much coverage as we did today, only the subject of that coverage would have been different. Does anyone think we would have even more coverage if we beat Hillary's record? I seriously doubt it, the news stations can only devote so much time to politics.

A 48 hour drive that tops Guilliani and Romney in fund raising for the quarter would also deliver just as much coverage.

This isn't about beating Hillary's numbers, it's about raising recognition through free media exposure. We did that, we won that battle. If we can deliver 10 million in 48 hours next time or whatever, we'll have won again, and Ron Paul would be up there with Gulliani's corrupt fund raising.

Here I am. Someone who WARNED about the reaction the media would take with November 5th, now telling you now that 48 hour fund raiser will be completely ignored. It will be ignored if we don't at least break even with what we did on November 5th or worse reported negatively.

"Ron Paul campaign losing steam. Takes in less campaign funds."

:D

The Boston Tea Party is a part of American folklore, every American knows what it is and I think every American has at least a somewhat positive opinion of it.

Guy Fawkes is (was?) mostly unknown in the U.S., with the few who had heard of it probably having heard about it from the movie V for Vendetta. Both "V" and Guy Fawkes tried to use terrorism as a tool, and the MSM can (and did in some cases) try to emphasize the terroristic aspects of Guy Fawkes in an attempt to rain on the parade by exploiting an uninformed public (luckily it doesn't seem to have worked).

I just don't think it's possible for the MSM to make the Boston Tea Party or anyone who would celebrate it seem fringe without looking un-American themselves. This is very, very, very different from the Guy Fawkes day situation.

I think it's a terrible idea to interrupt www.teaparty07.com. This thing has already gone viral. It's catchy and works well. It's great, memorable marketing that will ring with every American...

Have a rally on the 15th, but don't interrupt teaparty07...

No, the money bomb would only be on ONE of the two days.
