Walter Williams is not qualified to be VP

In my eyes, this column, http://www.townhall.com/columnists/WalterEWilliams/2007/10/10/attacking_talk_radio, Walter Williams just disqualified himself for VP.

"Over the span of some 20 years, Rush has been attacked from just about every leftist corner, as would anyone who tirelessly espoused the founding principles of our nation -- private property, rule of law and limited government. What has made Rush so effective with this message has been his ability to put things, and ask questions, in a manner that the average citizen can understand and relate to, and do so with a bit of humor. Humor creates madness among leftists who want their interventionist agenda taken seriously.... Rush's show, as well as many of his competitors' shows, has ended much of the isolation among Americans. For example, if you were against racial quotas, you were made to feel like a racist by the major media. With the growth of talk radio, people found out that they were not alone and that being against racial quotas didn't make one a racist. As such, talk radio has been a painful thorn in the sides of those whose agenda is to control the news and debate as a means to control our lives. This is why the priority agenda for leftists is to attack talk radio, and their biggest target is Rush Limbaugh."

Not only does Rush not espouse the founding principles of our nation, he is pro-war and a Republican Party shill and apologist. He has also not endorsed the only guy who actually espouses the principles of the founders and has the voting record to back it up. While it's true that leftist have attacked him, so have others. Libertarians and paleoconservatives have also been critical.

I was more displeased with his comments on foreign policy than this. He'd make a good Secretary of the Treasury.

I don't get it. What specifically is it that Walter Williams wrote that you find disqualifies him, and why?

Walter Williams can be pretty cool sometimes.

Rush has been a vocal opposition to the socialist agenda of the democrats but unfortunately he hasn't been nearly as critical of the socialist agenda of the republicans. And Rush is just all wrong on this war thing too... and he's not a big defender of liberty... hmm... oh yeah, and he doesn't understand the problem of corruption in our financial system. Dang I used to think there were some things I agreed with Rush about but now I can't think of any. Oh yeah, the democrats still suck!

For VP I want Sarah Palin or Rachel Mills so we can get more of the womens' votes and be sure to beat the Hildabeast.

John Stossel, or maybe Kinky Friedman (I think he is still with us), or Jesse Ventura might be good too.

Holy camoly. Rachel Mills is now VP material? Wow, she is moving up fast in this world.

Rush Limbaugh is the greatest thing to happen to this country and to the conservative movement since Reagan. He may not have endorsed Paul yet, but he's been preaching the same conservative message as Paul for a long time. He's one of the best friends the Paul campaign has. If we can't get the votes of the ditto-heads, the campaign is doomed. Three cheers for Williams for his support of Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Rush Limbaugh. I still don't think Williams is right for VP. But his support of Limbaugh is definitely a plus for him not a minus.

Haha, Rachel Mills is not qualified. I don't think she's even old enough to assume the presidency. Palin still seems like an interesting prospect to me.

Having a woman on the ticket would cost more votes than it would gain. Why saddle the campaign with that burden when there are plenty of perfectly qualified men to do the job? Just because the Democrats are going to prove their own foolishness by nominating a woman, that doesn't mean that we need to erase the advantage that move will give us by doing the same thing.

You sure are misogynstic. First your comments in The View thread, and now this. A woman on the VP side helps balance any female Hillary effect we might encounter.

Maybe we should keep working to win, instead of day dreaming about the White House inner circle. We're not there yet people.

But the female Hillary effect hurts the Democrats and helps the Republicans. Why take away that political advantage?

I don't know if you've ever analyzed the demographics of Paul's supporters, but its a total sausage fest. We need female appeal.

That may be true. But, while having a woman on the ticket may appeal to feminists, that's not the same thing as appealing to the female vote in general. There are a lot of women who would prefer not to have a woman president, in fact, there may be more women who feel that way than men. If you really want to appeal to more women voters, nominate a good looking man for VP.

You are awful, man. Just awful! Incorrigible. ;)

Well hey, do you remember when Gore's support among female voters shot up after his acceptance speech in 2000, and it turned out the reason was because they thought it was touching the way that he made out with his wife on the way down to the stage? I'm just saying...

Well Gore is not handsome, so I can only assume you're saying that involving a woman in a campaign helps with the female vote.

That's a good point about him not being handsome (but he has gotten worse with the years--he was considered attractive in '92). But it wasn't because of involving a woman, unless by that you mean involving a woman purely as an object of a man's prurient affections, but because they saw him as a good, sensitive husband. So if we can't get somebody good looking, then somebody like that might do the trick. Truth be told though, I don't see the Paul campaign making a move just to pander to a voting block no matter what it is.

Well its a moot point anyway, because its way too early to pick a VP.

Rush spoke in philly today. Our meetup was there handing out slimjims, and the people were very receptive of our message.
