Veteran's Day reminder

While watching the news this morning it occurred to me that people tend to treat Veteran’s Day as if it were Memorial Day. I'd like to remind everyone that today is the day to honor ALL vets - living and dead - those who served in war-time and those who served in peace. This is the day to honor any man or woman that has ever (honorably) worn the uniform of any branch of service for the United States.

Too often, people forget this and only pay respect to the fallen soldiers. While it is imperative that we pay the highest respect to the fallen soldier, there is a special day reserved for this tribute - Memorial Day. Today is the day to honor the living and the dead soldier.

Today is NOT the day to argue "the war". Today is the day to say thank you to those that serve and remember that they do so voluntarily and swear to obey the orders they are given. It is not up to them to determine if the war is right or wrong. It is thier job to take up arms or support those that take up arms for the United States of America.

I would like to also suggest that, regardless of what a school teacher in Sarasota Florida believes, this is NOT a day to give honor to the concrescence objector. While some may believe that they deserve respect, I am vehemently opposed to the idea of trying give them membership into my fraternity. They do not belong in my group and they surely do not deserve to be honored on the same day as my veteran brothers and sisters.

If you know anyone that has served, please take a moment to call or visit them today. Shake their hand and say "thank you".

Hooah!

I totally agree with what you said.

Thank you for your service, Will.

Thank you for your service Will :)

Thank you. But please, my post is meant to encourage people to thank other veterans. I would hope, for example, that some people might actually visit some nursing homes and thank some of the men and women that served from "The Greatest Generation" or visit the VA hospitals and thank some of the soldiers that have returned from Iraq and Afgahnistan. And, don't forget the vets from Korea and Vietnam and all of the time between. If you have a father, grandfather, uncle, brother, sister, or aunt that served, call him or her and tell them. You wouldn't believe (unless you're a vet) how touching it is to hear such a simple message from someone.

These people are the greatest men and women on Earth and I love them with all of my heart. I wish that I could personally tell each and every one of them "thank you"...

Umm.. thanks for the post but this thread is not about the donations today. It's about actually speaking to Vets to say "thank you"...

I will be taking my father (U.S. Army Ret., Korea) to dinner at golden corral tomorrow. They have a free dinner for vets. i will be wearing my RP gear and taking liberty cards.

I talked to lots of them yesterday when I was handing out fliers at the veterans day parade.

This thread is about honoring veterans, if you don't want to honor them do not post here- off-topic posts will be removed per the forum guidelines. Please use PMs when it makes most sense.

Thanks everyone.

My dad is a vet, he was in the service during Korea- I'm going to call him up and make a donation today in his name.

I just gave my neighbor a big thank you for his service to our great country. I should see my friend at work or I will call him and thank him as well.

It is the least we can do to show our respect to the people who stand up to protect us and our liberties.

I believe that I just learned something about my fellow Ron Paul supporters. It seems to me that not many of you really care about our vets. I posted this thread earlier this morning. It attracted only three comments and then quickly fell to the second page moving further down the line as everyone simply ignored it.

I sincerely hope that this isn't indicitive of a genereal disregard for our vets by a large number of you. If that is the case, I'm seriously going to have to reevaluate who I should be joining forces with.

Will, there are a lot of us who know what this day is about and thank God for our soldiers and their many sacrifices.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it has always seemed to me that it hits closer to home if 1. you've been in war, as you have been or 2. are old enough to remember Vietnam, or even WWII. Please take heart that many of us understand and thank, from the bottom of our hearts, every brave soldier and veteran for their service in the defense of our country.

Today is Veteran's Day and we should make every effort to thank as many veterans as we can. But not just today; EVERY day. At least that is what I do.

Thank you LE. However, I was lucky enough to serve during a time of relative peace. The 82nd Abn returned from the 1st gulf war while I was in jump school. I did not spend any time in a combat zone. The closest that I came to it was the peace-keeping mission in Egypt. However, nobody was shooting as us and we didn't have to worry about IEDs. It was almost a vacation compared to what the soldiers are experiencing today. Like I said, I was lucky.
