Urgent? California just declared closed primary

I don't think it's cause of Ron Paul. If you read the history on that site, it used to be a closed primary state until 1996. There was one of those statewide ballots, that made it open, but then the Democratic party filed a lawsuit against that, wanting closed primaries. They've been fighting ever since.

It's been this way actually. It's nothing new. The GOP is arrogant. However the good news is registration ends two weeks before the February primary.

The one Ron Paul meetup I went to recently talked about the closed primary out here. The issue of registering as a Republican was brought up since there were a number of people who were either Democrats or Independents. The meetup leader even brought some registration cards to take so you could update your info, or register someone to vote yourself.

Its been this way for previous primaries in CA.

We can still win lots of delegates here because its county by county, not winner take all.

It has always been a closed primary in California except the one year after a ballot vote to make it open. It went back to a closed one the next election and I didn't follow the reason but I figured it was one of the parties filing lawsuits.

That is the big factor. Californian supporters are not yet even registered Republican. I think we'll have a big impact here and we're completely of most political radar under the assumption that we are Democrats.

California deadline

When is the deadline to register or change registration in California?

The primary is February 5th.

The registration deadline is January 21st.

I don't know what the deadline is if you are changing parties. I changed my registration on the 4th of July.

California is winner take all by Congressional district, not by county, if I understand correctly. With 10+ candidates on the ballot, someone could get a boatload of National Convention delegates with around 25-30% of the vote....

This is rare. Something is wrong in California.

Californians, speak up!

This is old news. And yes, there is a lot of confusion on this issue.

To vote for Ron Paul in the Primary, Register Republican today!

Why isn't this a sticky or something? Why isn't it featured on the official website?

Someone is dropping the ball big-time here. This question comes up constantly. And anyone "waiting for the deadline" will no doubt miss it. People need to register as a Republican right now! Change it after the Primary if you want...

We can't afford to have a massive number of potential Ron Paul voters blocked out of the Primary due to voter registration issues...
