Trump to roll back Michelle Obama's school lunch rules

The Trump administration on Friday announced plans to roll back school lunch standards on vegetables and fruits originally promoted by former first lady Michelle Obama.

The new standards will allow schools more flexibility "because they know their children best," the Agriculture Department said in press release.

“Schools and school districts continue to tell us that there is still too much food waste and that more common-sense flexibility is needed to provide students nutritious and appetizing meals. We listened and now we’re getting to work,” Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said.

The proposed new rules build on previous steps taken by the Trump administration to roll back the controversial school lunch rules which were championed by Obama as part of her Let’s Move! healthy living campaign and signed into law by former President Obama.

Critics say the moves will result in unhealthier foods being introduced into school meals.

I miss the days when this forum would have celebrated the roll back of a regulation, any regulation, no matter how petty or small.

But "Orange Man Bad!" is more important I suppose.

ETA - Upon reflection, my comment is shortsighted, as FDA, at Trump's order, just banned tobacco products to those under 21.

On lunch rules, they always had strong differences (unlike other rules like those governing big gummit, gun control, daca, abortion, lgbtq civil rights etc , diversity is our strength model in schools where both had lot of common ground).

Trump's administration is a mixed bag but it is more good than bad.
And we should say that the good is good but the TDS brigade doesn't want to because then they would have to admit there is more good than bad.

The left wanted to blame food for a problem that is caused by lack of cardio. Kids don't get enough exercise. Having schools walk peoples kids seemed inappropriate even though it would help their brains work better. Instead the left makes it a racist argument or a hate argument even though these regulations didn't help it was something they could lie about and pretend it was an achievement- It mainly made kids hungrier and throw away foods they won't eat.
