Too Many Here Have the Wrong Idea

Too many of you think that gold and silver are going to somehow save you from the demise.

While they are a great commodity to hold position in, they certainly aren't the be-all-end-all of saving your ass.

For those who have multiple thousands of extra dollars lying around to invest beyond just a cash savings, you ought to be looking at more than just gold and silver.

Investing in foreign equities right now, and staying out of US Dollar-denominated stocks is a good move. Foreign money markets, industries, etc.

These positions will be good during inflationary times, and weak US Dollar.

Investing some cash in US Treasuries is also a good move, for if we ever see deflation (which we most certainly could), your money will be safe and GROWING.

If you can only afford to grab up bullion coins here and there, then that's fine. At least your protecting SOMETHING. But for those here who can afford to invest higher amounts of money, and are only looking at gold and silver, you're cutting your throat, so to speak.

Just because we're RP supporters, and RP is the "gold guy", doesn't mean gold and silver are "GOD".

Diversity is good

Diversity is good, but US Treasuries? We have 10% inflation right now and climbing. What is the return on US Treasuries? 5%? You might as well put FRNs in your mattress. And if there is hyper-inflation your treasuries will be as worthless as FRNs. Besides, do you really want to loan money to the government? Starve the Beast!!!

I don't think people, even those informed understand how close we are to economic collapse.

Treasuries? Hell no.

These stories coming out in the msm and on alternative news sights are written after the fact. Many people reading and researching this information are far away from the 'trenches' in this economy, from a street level, business to consumer, homeowner...etc.

During these times I would rather have my money in something easy to carry and/or hide, such as gold/silver. My opinion.

Swiss T-bills. I've been saying this since last summer. I don't take credit for the idea. It came from Jim Sinclair.

Stock up on food and supplies while you can, as well.

Oh yeah, and get a shortwave radio and LOTS of batteries. My father used to be a ham operator, and I said something about getting a cheap one. He was all concerned that his license may not be current and that wouldn't be the right thing to do. I spit my wine right out of my mouth!

How soon? 3 years? Will this affect higher education? As a student making 10 dollars an hour and paying for much of my education, I can really only afford silver coins here and there. I found this site interesting: http://the-moneychanger.com/commandments.phtml What will happen to regular middle class people? Like my uncle, he has a nice house, car, etc, but I don't think he knows a collapse is coming. What will happen to regular federal reserve notes? Will they be deemed useless, making everyone's "wealth" useless? Will banks give people all their money back? Is FDIC useless?

My mom got me this hand crank combination radio, flashlight, siren, cell phone charger, and weather service receiver. It has the ability to be cranked, for manual use with no batteries needed.

What happens if you become paralyzed?

Well, he would have to get someone else to crank it.
He would also need someone else to feed him.
I guess if there was nobody else around, then he would starve and not need the radio anyway.

LOL, it does have a battery too for lazy (or paralyzed) people.

LOL, US treasuries...

People should be buying or investing in anything tangible if you want to survive the "demise" for at least half a decade or more. I'm not sure there is anyone here who is saying stick only to metals! Most of us advise against that whenever it comes up. Investors know you'd want to be diversified anyway, and this isn't really an investment forum.

Well look at this scenario .... There are three men stuck on a desert island and no hope of rescue ... The three men each have three items. The first man has a million dollars in gold. The second man has a gun with one bullet. The third man has 6 months supply of food. Now who has the most valuable bargaining chip? I would imagine the guy with the food will get shot first.

The second man is mesmerized by the beauty of gold. Sells his gun to the first man. First man kills the third man. Then convinces the second man to go look for water (to have with "their" food) in the desert in exchange for gold. Third man dies in the desert. First man gets all the food.

What's the name of it? Where can it be bought?

Thanks for the link. Have you used it yet? How do you like it? What don't you like?

I have used it. Works great. Great reception, and constant streaming radio from the NOAA. There's nothing I don't like about it. I got it for a birthday present one year. All functions can either be battery powered or hand cranked, even the radio. Hand cranking the radio is a little awkward (you need a continuous motion). It even gets analog TV signals. But next year, with the fascist move to digitize all television, this will be null and void methinks.

How soon? 3 years?

No one can say for sure. However, there are signs now that a collapse could be as little as two or three months away. James Turk (of GoldMoney), for one, has predicted that it will come this summer.

Will this affect higher education?

It will affect everyone.

What will happen to regular middle class people? Like my uncle, he has a nice house, car, etc, but I don't think he knows a collapse is coming.

If hyperinflation hits, it tends to wipe out the middle class. Savings are destroyed. Jobs are lost. Look at what's happened in Argentina since 2001 for an example of how bad things can get.

What will happen to regular federal reserve notes? Will they be deemed useless, making everyone's "wealth" useless? Will banks give people all their money back? Is FDIC useless?

In a hyperinflation, FRNs will become worthless. If banks start to fail, you might get your money back (with or without the FDIC), but again if Argentina is any guide, it could only have a small fraction of the buying power it used to by the time you get it.

I'm a huge Ron Paul fan and I don't own an ounce of gold or a single gun. And I don't think any kind of economic collapse is coming to this country any time soon.

Hey Chickenlittle, Step back for one second and read that again....

This makes you.... uber-informed? You are the sole bearer of the information, well above those that are "informed"... what possible inside information do you possess to even allow you to make such a claim in your head... it makes absolutely no sense.

The informed don't even know... but I do...

wtf?

Refreshing and invigorating. Reason. It works Bitches.
