The John Birch Society Official Forum (Join up!)

I have a question. Why does the JBS get a bad rep? I mean Reagan was a member of the JBS, so why does it get a bad reputation now? Im curious about JBS.

Was Reagan a member before or after he received the party nomination? Did he become inactive after he was President?
I ask because he was known to talk against the CFR in Carter's cabinet, up until the midnight the night before he received the Republican nomination.

I would imagine that he was a member before he became President. Either way it doesnt matter, its Ronald Reagan & he's a member of a supposed fringe organization. I know what JBS is about but I dont understand why its unpopular.

They opposed UN membership in the 1950s and civil rights legislation in the 1960. It earned them the label of isolationist racists, rather than staunch defenders of the Constitution and republican government.

I joined about a year ago. I don't agree with them on everything. Their stance on immigration is not mine, at least not to the same extent, and they are very socially conservative. I don't recall seeing their position on the War on Drugs, but I suspect they would be against legalization.

Nevertheless they are strongly pro-states rights, strong defenders of the Constitution and have a very strong education/outreach program.

At one time, they were quite powerful and people were really starting to listen. They stood against everything that Ron Paul does and were fighting it, even before he came on the scene. TPTB wanted to take them down and so they did, with numerous smear campaigns.

It was rising again in popularity back when Congressman Larry McDonald was their President. You might recall that he was killed in that plane crash, when the Soviets shot down the plane.

I wouldn't classify them as "socially conservative", in that social conservatives, in my mind at least, are not conservatives at all. Because they believe in using big government force to force their agenda. The JBS are a strong group of patriots, very founded in the Constitution. They do believe that our nation was founded on biblical principles. But, so what (for those whom this bothers)? They also believe that people should be free to worship, or not, as they please.

The JBS is already setup for activism and if you register on-line for it, they will send you alerts about upcoming legislation.

Ron Paul has been their poster boy for MANY years. :) That should tell you a lot, right there.

I joined yesterday. :D Larry Mcdonald was assassinated by the KGB. They had a station desk dedicated to Larry McDonald. He had an intelligence network so good that US agencies would come to him first for information.

To find out more read "The Blue Book of The John Birch Society". It is the 2 day seminar written by Robert Welch, the founder.

Mr. Welch did not want to use his name. So, he chose John Birch. Who was a missionary in China. He spoke all the dialects and served in intelligence for the allies. He gathered intelligence, spotted enemy targets, and set up escape routes for Dolittle's pilots.

When told by his friends not to enter a certain area which was controlled by the Chinese Communist. We have to know if they are our freinds was his reply. His death was covered up by the US, after the Chicom (whom we supported) tortured and bayonetted him in the face. This was after the war was over. They left him to suffer overnight before he finally died.

I like the JBS, I think they need to rework their message. I am looking forward to seeing the JBS grow and find new ways of communicating their message to the younger generation without adjusting their own platforms. Organizations such as these are important, and I believe they should be considered non-threatening to groups with moderate or slight disagreement on philosophy but similar long term goals. Promote solutions to problems such as environmentalism that make sense instead of just pointing out how the issue is a tool in the belt of the corrupt. There are ways to build alliances through alternative solutions and truth telling. Truth telling alone doesn't get the job done.

I would consider joining this group except for the social conservatism and stances on "energy". I see no benefit pushing a message to promote energy markets around existing technologies. I find these views short sighted of scientific fact and reality in comparison to renewable technology that is maturing geometrically. Naivete in energy and the fight over "drilling" is so absurd to me sometimes - especially the generational inheritance of waste (they find a way to 100% recycle plant waste please correct me). Even if I am incorrect on my position with energy sources there is a serious vacuum in discussion by JBS and others in our faction in clean energy and it's promotion. I feel that a true free market position would work feverishly to identify and promote sources of unlimited power and fuel.

I will however consider supporting this group regardless of my stances on social issues. Being a civil libertarian, social liberalism or conservatism is socially irrelevant. We'll see, definitely going to be watching their forums. Perhaps people who feel the way I do can make compelling arguments in those areas of concerns.

:)

A brief essay on why I have not, as of yet, joined the John Birch Society:

...intelligence network so good that US agencies would come to him first...

...

Mr. Welch did not want to use his name. So, he chose John Birch.

...He gathered intelligence.

He had an intelligence network so good that US agencies would come to him first for information.
If that is true - it is a real good argument for why I am not interested in giving them my personal information
