Lilly is a survivalist YouTuber I started following a few years ago. She's really knowledgeable about survival (duh) and she's apolitical from what I can tell. Here are the highlights.

1) Europe is currently in a drought.
2) Some people in Austria have been using geothermal to keep their energy bills down but are hurt by the lower water table.
3) Austria's never needed to use irrigation before so they don't have it. If there is a prolonged drought there will be a complete crop failure.
4) Inflation is 10 to 11% in Austria.
5) One in six Germans are in economic crisis due to food prices. If the situation continues they will have an economic disaster and more pressure on the social system.
6) People are dropping out of the middle class and falling on the social welfare system.
7) For a good social welfare system you need more people working and paying into social welfare than you have poor people.
8) The current trend might bring the social welfare system to a collapse.
9) Lilly thinks they will print money to keep the system from collapsing.
10) The bad thing is they will perpetuate inflation if they keep printing money and making debt. It's like a downward spiral we can't get out of.

11) She's glad she's got a small vegetable garden. Saved 1200 Euros when she calculated a few years ago. Probably saving much more now.
12) Germany's last 3 nuclear plants were just taken off of the grid.
13) Since Germany isn't using nuclear any more they are having to use more coal and gas which produces more CO2.
14) Nuclear energy is a constant energy source unlike solar or wind. If the nuclear plant is already there why not keep using it?
15) Prior to Ukraine war, Austria got 80% of its energy needs from Russia.
16) They put sanctions on Russia because of the war, but now they're using 80% of natural gas from....Russia again.
17) Austria was lucky that this winter was so warm which is how they got through without a blackout.
18) It will probably be decades before Europe is really independent from Russian gas.
19) Her gas bill got 40% more expensive. Her electric bill got 80% more expensive.

20) To understanding, 30% of what they have (natural gas) is put into natural gas plants and converted to electricity. So as natural gas becomes more expensive, electricity becomes that much more expensive.
21) Used cars have gone up in price. New cars are way too expensive. Interest rates are going up. She can't buy any luxury items now. She buys most things used through an app on her phone. It's tough for young couples who want to buy a house.

Keep squeezing people like this...and the ultimate outcome can't be good.

Years ago a friend of mine and I were building our homes at about the same time. He installed geothermal, I did not. I regret not doing it, it has been serving him very well.

A person in one country doesn't have a gripe about a person in another country - it is governments which create the problems, and leads to sanctions/war. Hundreds/thousands of years believing and repeating the same mistakes won't solve problems.

Lilly is apolitical indeed. More people should be. I dig her ;-)

Lilly is awesome! And she has a lot of spunk. My mom (RIP) thought of doing this 40 years ago. We have some old well on the family property. The one we were thinking about using has been filled in, but it's not that far down to the water table. (About 30 feet I think).
