Who else is old enough to remember when they destroyed the occupy wallstreet movement with Cointelpro tactics through the MSM and then they started endlessly talking about racism to replace it?

I remember watching this happen in real time when I was still in college and started seeing so many people start fixating on this stuff instead of the "conspiracies", which were also demeaned and dismissed at that time. If you talked about bankers running the world and deciding the fate of nations with the dollars they print, you were considered a crazy conspiracist on par with Ron Paul, Alex Jones, and the other figures at the time talking about these financial crimes and those behind it.

Systemic racism, white privilege, discrimination, white supremacy, and all the other woke talking points that have now completely consumed public discourse, were a replacement for the outrage from the 2008 financial collapse.

I remember when liberals used to hate pharma and not trust vaccines. I remember when they wanted to arrest all the bankers and put them in jail like Obama said he would during his campaign, and then when the Occupy movement got killed, those same people were baptized into the newly formed cult of "woke", and placated into supporting the very same people they used to hate and want brought to justice.

Every time there is a movement that is the people vs the elite, it gets co-opted, captured, subverted, and then eventually destroyed and forgotten about. This happens through manipulation via MSM, and we always need to be cognizant of it and do our best not to fall prey to it.

Great post! I couldn't agree with his more. It boils down to wedge issues...wedge issues are not a friend of liberty.

"Occupy Wall Street" never was anything more than a wedge issue for communists.

Thankfully I never fell for that bon mot of Marxist poison.

The problem is this: those "wedge issuers" want to mutilate the genitals of your 8 year old. They want to come door to door and confiscate your firearms. They want to force you to house illegal invaders in your home. The are destroying farms and the food supply. They are working on man made plagues that will kill every human being on the planet.

There is no quarter, no unity, no middle ground to be had with people who think like this.

They are dangerous and powerful enemies to be respected and feared and utterly crushed.

The reason the Marxist mob has been so successful is because of the kind nature and the willingness to "come together" some people falsely cling to as a hope for the future.

But, of course, that mob is made up of individuals, and this is about splintering those off who are waking up to their own hypocrisy. And there are such things as longtime Democrats who see and dislike what is now expected of them, out there in the wild, or RFKJr wouldn't be making a splash.

We even have a handy gauge for separating the wheat from the chaff. Anyone who still can't admit that the jab is unsafe and ineffective is incorrigible. They can't be reached.

I admit that is a handy gauge.

So I guess you’re saying that Rage against the Machine were never really raging “against” the machine instead “for” it?!?
Am I too gullible that I still like their protest songs?

In 1999, the Machine boys released a single with an interesting video directed by Michael Moore in front of the New York Stock Exchange on 26 January 2000. While Moore DID have a permit (at least for in part), he “forgot” to tell the cops, and the Machine boys kept playing until they showed up. Of course afterwards they had a lot of big words, but basically the cops were set-up…
At one point in the video a man holds a "Donald J Trump for President" sign, predicting him as president…

Rage against the machine – Sleep now in the fire (1999)

Meh, so am I.

Best show I've ever gone to was Loolapalooza 1996 where they were one of the headliner acts.

This is radical and subversive and counter culture in 2023.

The very basis of being a progressive in a democracy is hypocrisy. The government must do for people because not enough people are willing to contribute to my pet projects. But if the majority are not willing to chip in to make it happen, then it isn't the will of the majority that it be done. Wait, where did the democracy go?

Liberty simply cannot be centrally controlled.

Just slow down a minute and really think. Has Marxism succeeded in the US? Not in the least. Let's get our definitions straight.

In Marxism, the proletariat, not the bourgeoisie, and not the aristocracy own the primary and essential means of wealth.

We are living the inverse of that situation here. A tiny minority of ultra-rich international bourgeosie, mostly connected to high finance, own just about everything.

Keeping the masses fed and sheltered via socialism, so that they do not revolt, is not Marxism. It is a safeguard against Marxism.

Many movements have been redirected and/or diverted down an endless identity politics rabbit hole. Race is just one of the many identity politics options.

In Marxism, the proletariat, not the bourgeoisie, and not the aristocracy own the primary and essential means of wealth.
In Communist dictatorships, there is certainly an "aristocracy" in control.

Maybe communist "leaders" are even more corrupt than in a capitalist "democracy", as they cannot be voted out of power...

Do you know what a proxy fight is?

Let's substitute one word and see where we wind up, shall we?

In Marxism, the proletariat, not the bourgeoisie, and not the aristocracy control the primary and essential means of wealth.

It's a conundrum. There must be an aristocracy where there is central control, by definition. It's inescapable. The quote sounds nice, but if you're thinking "own" means "control", you're off base. The stockholders may officially own a big corporation, but if you ain't on the board your voice isn't heard.

Marxism was never about mob rule. Quite the opposite. No major democracy since Athens has tried to bother all the voters over every little decision about the roads, least of all a "democracy" that wants to micromismanage every little thing. Therefore, you need not ask if there's an aristocracy, you can only quibble about who's in it.

That's the basic lie behind Marxism. It isn't about being free of any "superiors", it's about who is in control.

Democrats said Trump would usher in the end of liberal democracy. But it's been Democrats, not Republicans, who have sought to criminalize speech, undermine equal justice under the law, and incarcerate their political opponents.

Why Democrats Became the Totalitarians They Warned Us About
How did the Left go from defending the free speech rights of neo-Nazis to demanding censorship, falsely accusing their opponents of being fascists, and seeking their incarceration?
[first 5 paragraphs (w/hyperlinks) are from Substack ; remaining paragraphs (w/o hyperlinks) are from Twitter - OB]

When Donald Trump became president, Democrats predicted the worst. “Trump’s shocking victory, his ascension to the Presidency, is a sickening event in the history of the United States and liberal democracy,” David Remnick wrote in the New Yorker the day after the election. Trump, Remnick said, was an authoritarian who disdained civil liberties and whose election was “surely the way fascism can begin.”

Liberal commentators have compared Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler over and over again. Wrote legal scholar Laurence Tribe on Twitter in 2019, “I’m not saying Trump is becoming Hitler, so don’t bother tweeting the distinctions. But the physical and behavioral resemblances aren’t altogether irrelevant. No prior president even suggests the comparison.” Last month, Crown published a new book by Rachel Maddow that compares Trump-supporting Republicans to fascists.

Trump had little respect for the First Amendment, Democrats claimed. He attacked freedom of speech and of the press, striking at our fundamental rights. On top of this, liberal media outlets alleged Trump used his office for personal gain and weaponized the justice system for his own benefit.

After January 6, 2021, the liberals who had been skeptical about anti-Trump hysteria became convinced that the hysterics had been right all along. In 2018, legal scholar Cass Sunstein suggested that Trump would not bring authoritarianism to the United States. Then, after the Capitol riot, he changed his mind, saying that American democracy was indeed under threat from Trump and his supporters. “The events of January 6, 2021, made me think I was actually quite wrong on that,” he said.

But Friday’s release of the first tranche of January 6 tapes [see this thread - OB] confirms that Trump’s actions paled in comparison to the steps Democrats have taken to defeat him and his supporters. The tapes corroborate Public’s previous reporting and show that the Democrat-driven narrative of an insurrection was highly misleading. Democrats used this narrative to demonize tens of millions of voters, to justify their censorship efforts, and to weaponize the justice system against their political enemies.

It’s true that the tapes show rioters forcefully entering the Capitol, and some scenes on the tapes are not peaceful. It’s also true that Trump’s rhetoric has, at times, been inflammatory and illiberal.

But what the tapes do not show is a coup attempt. Rather, they show many scenes that contradict this narrative, like January Sixers walking calmly down the hallway, Capitol police appearing completely unphased by these supposed insurrectionists, and Capitol police giving the trespassers handshakes.

Despite the evidence that law enforcement at best permitted this “coup” to take place and at worst facilitated it, January 6 judges have handed down extremely harsh sentences. They sentenced one defendant to 22 years in prison despite the fact that he wasn’t even in Washington, D.C. on January 6 [see this thread - OB].

What’s more, the January 6 tapes show scenes that are far less violent than Black Lives Matter riots, which were investigated and prosecuted with much greater lenience, even in cases of arson and assault.

Above all, the newly released tapes demonstrate that the Democratic party’s claims to be fighting for democracy and staving off authoritarianism are a sham and that it is the Democrats who have, in their persecution of Trump and his followers, done more to undermine democracy than Trump ever threatened to do.

Elites in the Democratic party and in the mainstream media, through their efforts to subdue a populist backlash, have eroded First Amendment rights and have politicized the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Democrats became everything they once said they feared in Trump: censorial, totalitarian, and corrupt. Their years-long clampdown on dissent and criminalization of political opposition was a systematic attack on liberal democracy. Worse, they became everything that liberals during the 20th Century warned Americans about.

The Twitter Files [see this thread - OB], the Missouri v. Biden case [see this thread - OB], the Facebook Files [see this thread - OB], and new documents recently analyzed by Public [see this post - OB] have exposed the lengths to which Democrats went to quash opposition and prevent citizens from exercising the right to protected speech.

At the same time as the federal government has pushed for censorship, the FBI under Biden has increasingly become a domestic spying agency, turning its efforts against regular Americans [see this thread - OB]. When whistleblowers step forward to push back against the bureau’s partisan or unethical practices, the FBI retaliates against them [see this thread - OB].

Meanwhile, Biden’s DOJ is inappropriately shielding him and his son from any accountability for their lucrative influence-peddling operation. A growing body of evidence suggests that President Biden played a major role in his son’s business and that the DOJ is protecting the president from repercussions. [see this thread - OB] This is precisely the type of corruption Democrats warned Trump would bring to the office of the presidency.

The Democratic party and the Biden administration have become precisely what liberals said Trump would be, and they have attacked the foundational principles of our democracy in the name of protecting them. How did this happen?

Liberalism, Elitism, And Tribalism

The obvious rea...

"We have to have a government because otherwise we will have mob rule."

"Okay. I'll take charge."

"No, no. That would make you a tyrant. That's no good. We must all decide everything. We will have democracy. Majority rules."

"Fine. Now we have mob rule empowered by law. That's a big improvement. Now what?"

"Oh, we're picking a tyrant now. He has the best clothes."
