I started college last week as an economics major, and one of my courses has to do with consumerism in today's culture. on the second day of class, this was shown: http://www.storyofstuff.com/. Is anyone else appalled that this kind of bias is allowed to be taught in colleges and universities? Some of the claims are outright lies! I almost gagged as I saw my peers taking this crap in as though it was undisputed fact. Sickening.... :(

I started as well and my Civics/Government prof is the biggest statist I've ever seen

My Poli Sci prof complains about how "our" government hasnt been representing "us" and is doing evil stuff, therefore, she wants Obama as president because He will bring change and a more bureaucratic government.

"Story of Stuff" counterpoints.

Worthy of being in the must see doco's? Interesting?

It could be worthy, it was an eye opener for me. If it is representative of the state of institutions for higher learning, then we're in real trouble. I've been out of college for some time now, so I cannot tell if it rings true. Just how much of it may be propaganda I cannot determine.

Basically, its the story of people from 3 colleges who are subjected to leftist bias from students, faculty and even administration personnel.

A professor of one of my poli sci classes chastised me yesterday for saying the phrase "Founding Fathers" when answering her question. Apparently, the phrase is wildly misogynistic and ignores the contributions of most of America (the womenfolk and the children who wrote the Constitution, I suppose).

Also, according to this same professor, the elastic clause specifically permits for welfare programs like social security and medicaid.

Oh, and my personal favourite: George Bush wiretapping is a gross and unconstitutional violation of our privacy rights, whereas the IRS forcing you to hand over all of your financial information is not. *sigh*

^ I haven't had any political science classes yet. I'm not looking forward to the bias in those classes too...:(

I've heard this, but I'm not sure if it's true. Are 9 out of every 10 professors considered liberal? Certainly seems so around here.

So far no teacher has been overtly so.. they've tried to remain impartial; they go on to denounce the free market (got told a story about how the people in the bush wouldn't get any service if the telecommunications people didn't get the city folk to subsidize them)

Neo-liberalism is being discussed. He goes on about trade, and sweat shops... this girl piped up; don't people die in those places etc. Hahaha... *facepalm* then this other girl came out swinging, all we hear is talk how bad it is.. those people wouldn't have jobs or employment if it wasn't for these companies etc... I work in a company that has an office in the philapeans, they're way better treated etc. So it's not all like the horror stories you here. Then she semi accused the lecturer or saying it's bad etc. He back peddled and took the "I'm neutral stance"... rofl.

Btw - just quickly - what's bad about neo-liberalism?

It finally happened. One of my professors "implied" that she is an Obama supporter today, and even called him "an agent of change." :(

My economics class is not that bad so far. We learned that one of the planks of economics is that government intervention is sometimes needed when markets fail. But I was glad to see that the teacher said bailing out fannie/freddie was probably a bad idea. Then a few students chimed in about how it's putting the burden on the taxpayers and it's rewarding bad behavior. We also talked about the negative effects of government intervention in labor and rental markets!

That's a great film, they are right. I don't know that every factoid she gave is 100% correct, but effectively what she is saying is right on.

I hope everybody here watches it. They bring up some very important points regarding externalizing costs and such. These big corporations they are talking about are being supported by the Federal Reserve, this is not the "free market".

Also keep in mind that pollution goes against the idea of property rights.

Edit: Read this thread to get an idea of what I am referring to: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=155688&highlight=essay+libertarian

When they get to the part that says, "Other libertarians disagree", read this section carefully.

Well..all of you folks who know the truth ...that's a great place to hand out fliers. Do your papers etc...on the fed..and other liberty issues. Wear your Ron Paul or Libertarian Party t shirts and really shake those liberal communist teachers up.lol. tones

I want to buy, or make a shirt that has

"Capitalist" on it..

And wear it around campus... LMFAO :D

I'm sure that would lead into some interesting conversations / emotional abuse & illogical conclusions thrown my way :D

You can make a t shirt for free on vista print

www.vistaprint.com

Just go there and click on free stuff. You have to pay shipping though and it's about 7 bucks now. They have templets and you design your own. I just made 2. Tones
