US Marine Colonel Simcock, the commander of USMC Regimental Combat Team (RCT) 6 in Iraq, is asking for 6,000 positive emails to his Marines.

That's one email for each Marine in his RCT command. COL Simcock is concerned about the effect of the negative barrage that those Marines are getting through the electronic media. So far, they've only mustered 2,000 emails.

This is a legitimate request. It's not one of the "little Johnny wants to break the world's record in Christmas cards" situations. It takes only 30 seconds of your time. Here's the email address:

[email protected]

If you're reading this email, then you can probably click on the address, type a few words, and then hit "send" to be all done.

It doesn't have to be the Gettysburg Address. Something as simple as "Hello, Marine. We thank you for your commitment to our country and to your oath to defend the Constitution.

We are here at home fighting everyday to get you home to your families. You all defeated Saddam. You have victory with honor. We wish you Godspeed on your return.

Ron Paul supports the troops and we thank you and all of the other military personnel for giving to Ron Paul and the Ron Paul 2008 campaign. www.ronpaul2008.com

Yes, just one

I have the impression that the officer who receives the messages will distribute them. It would be great if we had individual addresses, but that might be against military policy...the whole "loose lips sink ships" thing.

Please participate in this. It's an excellent way to show Ron Paul's support for the military, which can go both ways in our favor and in their safe return.

Is it really appropriate to spam RP to the marines like this? It seems like it's not really in the spirit of the project to get political. I think it would be much bigger of us to organize a project through the forums to flood the marines with positive e-mails thanking them for their service without mentioning RP.

Edit: would probably be newsworthy, too...and would help to pick up some of the less ardent neo-cons.

sure I send one.. :o

Thanks, I sent a letter but I did not mention Ron Paul. As much as i would like to spread the word I felt this was not the place to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if political letters never get past the screener.

Mail sent. Don't overpromote Ron, and make sure they know getting them home is the reason many of us are so strongly supporting RP.

In the body of the letter, don't get into politics per se. Just discuss how thankful you are for their courage and honor. And that you want them to secure safe passage home as soon as possible. Sign it with your name and write under it 'Ron Paul supporter' or words to that effect.
