Semi OT? Army desertion rates highest since 1980

Can you blame them?

First off, the "implied" powers of the president by way of the oath of office end where the common soldier's oath takes over....

Mainly, we swear on oath to protect and defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. The constitution says congress has to declare war, which means a soldier going to war WITHOUT a constitutional declaration of war amounts to something NOT INCLUDED in the armed forces oath.

People claim the president has the power to due things NOT explicitly defined in the constitution (such as these semi-wars) due to implied powers from his oath, however, soldiers take a different oath, and we don't swear loyalty to a president, on the contrary, if he is an enemy of the constitution, we swear loyalty against him.

yeah. word.

I'm pissed.

Is it me, or do I feel a draft...

I dare 'em. I'd like to see them try. Man, if so many of the few who actually sign up are running away, what makes them think that they will be able to make the others obey?!?!

The neocons will not succeed.

The End.

I don't agree with the war but I think this article is very biased:

"According to the Army, about nine in every 1,000 soldiers deserted in fiscal year 2007, which ended Sept. 30, compared to nearly seven per 1,000 a year earlier. Overall, 4,698 soldiers deserted this year, compared to 3,301 last year."

It's per 1,000 soldiers, so the headline makes it sound much worse than it really is.

Last time I checked no one forced them to sign on the dotted line.

I can understand if they don't want to go to Iraq, but can't say I fell sympathy for them. This is what they signed up for, and that's how it works. We have an all Volunteer Military.( You can thank Milton Friedman for that, who i'm sure most of the Socialist on the board detest)
