Wow, demanding spending cuts, that's a first. Good for Arnold.

"I have been very clear this entire year that I would be unable to sign a budget without meaningful budget reform," the governor wrote, stressing that spending cuts were needed.

State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, a Democrat, also assailed the budget plan, saying this morning that it "gives gimmicks a bad name."

"It's banana republic financing," Lockyer said. The spending plan relies on "phony money and phony estimates."

Update at 7 p.m. ET: "When they send me the budget, I will veto it," Schwarzenegger said at a Capitol news conference, the Los Angeles Times reports. "If my veto is overriden," he said, " ... hundreds of bills will be vetoed."

AWESOME... the damn Socialists in CA have ruined that state.

Hell, CA desk clerks and cops are making over 100K a year, plus a Primo benefits and retirement... they're paying Graduate SW developers 75-90K a year and a crap shoot on bennies.

The state is upside down, but it gives you a simile of the country under Barak Obama

Yeah, the Democrats here (California) are slamming Arnold because he wanted to pay the goverments empoyees the federal minimum wage. But they never asked themselves how the state was going to pay those employees otherwise.

It's pretty ignornat to lump cops and desk clerks into the same category. No reason why SW developers shouldn't make as much or as little as cops, RN's, Teachers, etc. Desk clerks making 100K a year is ridiculous. Funny thing is 100K a year isn't a whole heck of a lot out here in California. But I do agree with the benefits thing. A little excessive for cops to retire with 80% pay or whatever at 45.

It's not over. Heard on the news that the legislature has enough votes to override. Those of us in Cali need to call our assemblymen/women and pressure them into not overriding.

True but Arnold said if they override it he will veto everything that crosses his desk. That alone should stop a lot of spending :D
