Hopefully this is an isolated incident. I hope, but hope is not a plan.
The control they have over many police is twofold. Believe what they are told to believe. Or... quite simply, YOURE FIRED. No soup for you.
And just like us, many cops depend on their precious paychecks. They will defend their next paycheck at the expense of the one after it. They are trying to kick the can down the road, but it is the end of the road and we are at the edge of a cliff. Their belief is a bit different. They are taught to "be afraid" of us. Why? We are armed and we are pissed. They are right to be afraid. But we are not out to hurt cops. Or leftists. Or even the warmongers. We want justice. But what we want, and what they think we want are two very different things. Thus, they can be pushed to become so afraid or so angry they are willing to shoot us people en masse. And you end up with a Civil War.
Follow many of our potential paths: BLM -> Civil War, Oregon Protests -> Civil War, Mandatory Vaccine -> Civil War, Biden Presidency -> Civil War, Economic Collapse -> Civil War. It seems more and more of our options have one inevitable outcome. It is the very thing we have been trying to avoid this entire time.
To the Cops, STOP DEFENDING THE WRONG PEOPLE. Bring them to justice. Uphold your Oath. Protect and Serve THE PEOPLE, not the rich and powerful and people who put signatures on your paychecks. If you have our backs, we will have yours. We will work out our differences peacefully without the Devil whispering in our ears how awful the other side is. WE BOTH know who the real criminals in this country are. Real Justice means an actual Trial by Honorable Judges, not Mob Rule. If we do not have justice then we end up with Mob Rule, and shortly thereafter, our society dies.
