A RUSSIAN invasion force aboard tanks and armoured vehicles marked with a letter “Z” was rumbling towards Ukraine’s border today.

In yet another ominous sign of looming war, vehicles were understood to have been marked with distinctive white letter inside a square box to avoid friendly fire once action begins.

Ukrainians have much of the same equipment. I'm also pretty confident that Russia isn't using most of their latest and greatest equipment, so that probably equalizes them even more. Wouldn't be surprised if both still have Soviet markings on them.

Friendly fire is always a concern. When I went to Iraq in 2003, we put special tape on our vehicles and helmets that would shine when looked at through NVGs.
