There is some people a bit concerned about Ron Paul having paid his daughter $160K to help run his campaigns.

Is this true?

Also, what are the best responses to this as a lot of people don't support nepotism regardless of qualifications? (And will note many in politics do this)

We have a thread on this from the article in Capitol Hill Blue. Please look over the first page of the forum before starting new topics so things can be kept orderly. :)

The man won't vote to give gold medals to American heros because he does not feel the people's money should be spent unwisely or against their interests. I can't see him 'giving' money to his kids, except for when they are serving a legitimate role within his organization.

It seems to me there is a difference between giving money that was confiscated (taxed) and money that was given to you voluntarily.

This is more of the "Ron Paul flew first class" type of "information".

Nothing to see here, move along.

There isn't a lot of work to being a campaign treasurer, probably an average of 5 hours a week at most. Hopefully she was also doing additional work for the campaign.

I believe his daughter is the treasurer of his campaign.

It looks like the money was paid out over a 6 year period. It works out to less than $30,000 per year. It seems to me that he hired someone he knew he could trust to keep an eye on the money.

Yup. Sounds like a smart move to me.

Don't they have to keep detailed records of all the money? It takes me 5 hours a week just to do my household paperwork, and we only have one contributor.

Ron Paul's Daughter

And he still has money left over in his congressional budget to pay back to the Treasury each year.

If this was about a Neo-Con, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannitty would be calling the charges "Outrageous!"

I heard that in the early 80's, Ron Paul returned 2 library books...5 DAYS LATE!!

I hope we can keep the lid on that one.

I heard George W Bush got his younger brother to demolish the Twin Towers and then got him to clean up and destroy the evidence...

As long as those running the campaign are transparent with how campaign money was spent, I think this issue is not as big a deal as those who are trying to make it out to be are saying.

I think this is more an ugly ploy/black props to discourage people from contributing to Ron's campaign and to hurt his fundraising efforts.

BINGO!

Her salary was not extravagant. He chose a person he knew he could trust to handle the money. No issues here. You are right on the money. This is meant to make people hesitant to donate to the campaign.

The treasurer i know on large campaigns are working 40 plus hours. Saying 5 hours a week... just doesn't make sense. have you seen the fec requirements? it makes it almost impossible for a poor person to run... how do i know? i've ran for public office twice. once at state rep level... then for u.s. house.

I ran for city counsel and there is a ton of paper work with regards to campaign finances. It would be a full time job for even a "second tier" presidential bid. You can trust me on this, because i've had to deal with it on a much smalller scale and it sucks!
