Most of this post is a response from another thread, but i feel this subject deserves a thread of its own.....

If Ron Paul is in this for long haul, as in willing to run in 2012........

He should make that clear.....Nader is running at 76 though no one takes him seriously.

If Ron Paul is looking to go the Reagan route......He should announce his intentions to his supporters.....

Reagan was shunned by the republican establishment in 1976......but used the time from then until 1980 to build a strong organization to compete the next time around which the establishment could not use the same tactics to marginilze him like 1976....

The Ron Paul revolution is splintering.....if he announced to everyone that he is every intention of running again in 2012, this would revive the effort, imagine fundraising from the day after the election to 2012 and the base that has already been built having 4 years to spread the message....if Ron Paul promised a 2012 presidential run.....the Ron Paul revolution could set its site on a realistic goal.....4 years to get name recognition....4 years to spread the message....and 4 years to fundraise.....4 years to win the presidency....look how much money we raised.....look how much we accomplished....imagine if we had 4 years to work with.......we could if he would run in 2012.

That is our most realistic chance of a Ron Paul presidency......76 would be old to run, but as long as he sounds intelligent as he does today in 4 years, I don't see the age factor a problem. I really hope Ron chooses this route....in 4 years the economy should be in shambles based on the data i've been seeing.....RP could have an organization many times stronger than he does now....this is probably the only chance for an RP presidency at this point....building for 2012 and the sooner he expressed his willingness to run in 2012.....the quicker we could get to work into making it a reality.

If this is the plan, it would make sense why Ron Paul holds the chance to speak at the RNC convention so dear.....much more than a go for broke...independent run......

I just hope if this is the plan....he annouces it ASAP before what has been built fractures further......

If we knew 2012 was in the cards......it would bring up the morale of the troops..... and would keep this movement intact and growing for 4 years for another run in 2012......

Ron seems to take his health seriously, so I'd definitely hope he'd be around then. but he'd be oooold. even with four years to build, will the masses nominate Paul over someone younger like Giuliani or Romney, to go up against Obama?

I don't think he should say outright he's running in 2012, because there is no telling if he'll be around to do so. But were he to say, he's going to fight for the ideals of conservatism through the Republican party for as long as he can, including in 2012 regardless of which side wins the Presidency, I think that would work.

I agree he shouldn't say 100% for sure he will run in 2012.....but something like this....

"We have made great inroads into bringing the ideals of conservatism back to the GOP....but seeing John McCain as the GOP nominee, says we have not quite accomplished the goal of returning conservative principles to the GOP.....no one said it would be easy....we have worked hard and made gains......but we have not yet returned the GOP to a true conservative course.

If all you who have worked so hard for me and the ideas of Liberty, Sound Money and conservative values and a constitutional republic....will continue to work for these ideals, and build for the future....God willing, I will be willing to run again in 2012 if we continue to build on what we have accomplished in this election cycle, during the next 4 years."

I think something like this would be the kind of thing I would want to hear from RP if he has any inkling of running in 2012......

He's already too damn old.

I rather him not run for president again--because then he'd only be blackedout agin--and just go on shows to spread his message that way. I have a feeling that reporters would be much more willing to have him to talk about political and especially economic issues if here weren't running for president.

I'm not sure if he is too old, but next time around it would be used as a major argument against him, that is sure.

You are probably right about the reporter thing; then again, the presidential campaign doesn't last (yet) four years, so he could announce his candidacy when the time comes, and could get on all those high-profile debates, where he is harder and harder to ignore.

This decision won't be made for a few more years - heck, these elections are not over yet!

Have faith in the future, and do your best to bring it about.

haha he's not too old. To be honest, he doesn't even seem as old as he is. Dr. Paul is young at heart, and I think that reflects on his outward appearance. If Ron isn't in the white house this time, you can bet people will be taking a hard look back 4 years from now. I imagine "was Ron Paul the next reagan?". Age shouldn't be a problem.

Mike Gravel is 78, and he's running.

Here's something I discovered: http://www.ronpaul2012.com/ ("Coming soon!")

I did a WHO-IS lookup on Network Solutions website, and the site is owned by the same company that is currently running ronpaul2008.com. Now, whether he bought this because he was planning to run, or he bought it merely as a protection so no one else could, is yet to be seen.

I'm excited about the prospect nonetheless! :D

I can see a scenario where the economics of this country gets to be so dire, people actually wake the heck up in the next 4 years and realize that our "nutty" Ron Paul was right. And at that point, they won't care how old he is...

It's up to us to carry the torch of Liberty, regardless.

interesting...though I think things are going to economically collapse before even this election. *shrug* who knows though...maybe if we collapse, get beaten to a pulp, but repent of our evil actions, Ron Paul might actually stand a chance.

how old is john mcwar if second term ... age is not what it was & ron is athletic imo ... also someone from the paul family could be tutored in 4 yrs to take the reigns and stand firm on our values

kill the banks

Yes, Ron needs to recruit a young Luke Skywalker for the next go. Ideally someone with the charm of Princess Lea and no imperial entanglements (such as newsletters and AJ connections). Ron is just too radical for mainstream America - at least at this moment in time.

I disagree with the TS assertion that announcing a 2012 now run would energize the campaign. I think it would be the final nail in the coffin. Really, why would I donate my hard earned cash now for a campaign in 2012 when I could take that same money and buy gold and have a lot more money to donate in a few years?

And why should we put ALL of our eggs in the "Ron Paul" basket? There are other congressional candidates that Dr. Paul has endorsed so if you don't want to donate to the 2008 presidential bid there are other things you can do that are more productive IMO then speculating about 2012. Think about other potential leaders. Rand Paul? Albert Howard? Yourself? We need to be holographic and not monolithic in our leadership thinking. (Go to http://www.freedom-force.org if you want to understand what I'm talking about.)

John M. Drake

Again with "someone from the Paul family". What's with this obsession over nepotism and bloodline? None of his kids are in politics and couldn't get the experience necessary in 4 years even if they got elected tomorrow.

Quit worrying about getting someone with the "Royal" blood lineage. This is America. There are Ron Paul Republicans in office now and more to come... hopefully. Anyone of them, should they desire, can be groomed for the next race.

What about Sarah Palin? She's a governor and they seem to be favored (except this time) for the Presidency. Plus, how pissed will Hillary be if the first female President is a Republican?

bump bump.. this is about liberty and ron paul happened to answer the call to lead the revolution. the r3VOLution was here before RP and will be here long after.

I sure as hell hope he does. Better yet, I'm going to go make a website with a petition just for this. And I hope to hell that everyone signs it.
