Ron Paul Really Might Win This Thing

Since I've been working to support the campaign, I've been frankly realistic about what I thought were the odds. My response has been to ignore them, because even if Paul didn't win, my feeling is that the Paul movement is just the tip of a larger discontent, and any work for Paul will just accrue to what ever battle would follow in the event of a loss for the campaign. So by that assessment, regardless of the odds, no vote, no time spent, is "wasted".

But things are happening fast, we see, almost out of control. Every day brings a new surprise. Just the past few days, my spidey senses have been off the chart about the campaign momentum. A couple of days ago, I wrote an article about how the velvet revolution in 1989 went down, what lessons we in the Paul campaign might draw from it. If you are interested, read it here. If you are so inclined, I'm interested in hearing people's comments or if there are any lessons to be learned that we can use to further the cause.

I still consider it a longshot...but the recent media blitz, the money, the frugality of the campaign, and the effectiveness of the message are all starting to convince me.

We still have a long way to go, and a hard row to hoe.

I agree. things are looking up.

But my fear is complacency.

I'm not going to stop fighting until Ron is hoisting a glass of wine at the Inauguration Party (and hopefully I can cheers him in person)

I don't think any ron paul supporter would miss that party. I'll see you there buddy!

I like the momentum of the movement in which the internet is 90% responsible. We are likely somewere between 5 and 10 percent nationally, and ever since Iowa I was the first to say we can win this thing despite the polls. However, I think we are failing horribly in strategy. We need to win in NH, come in 3rd or better in Iowa, and win one other early primary state like Michigan to even have a chance. I don't see the campaign or the grassroots doing enough to insure that, and it is reflected in the polls of these crucial states. We can't run a campaign like Giuliani, we don't have 8 years of media adoration behind us.

We are not going to win if the large majority of us don't realize this NOW. All of the frontrunners are campaigning harder in these states. My prediction is that 2 weeks before the primary, we finally realize it and see that Mitt Romney has a double digit lead over us, just like in Iowa and we will haphazardly scramble with hundreds or thousands of us working to make up the defecit. Unfrtunately the time for that was yesterday. The message itself sells. If only 10% of the general population knows about Ron Paul, yet he is at 5%, this is proof enough that we just need to work harder to get the message out becaue it is winnable.

Excellent post -- thank you very much.

Freedom is popular! The 2008 primaries and general election are going to be different from anything we've ever seen.

Thank you for the post and the link. It almost mirrors the thoughts I had on the way to work this morning.

Last April, this campaign was considered a joke. Anyone who proudly supported Ron Paul was considered a kook - not because of any 9/11 conspiracy or other tin-foil hat idea, but solely on the basis that they were a Ron Paul supporter.

Many, many things have happened to bring us to the point we are today. Any one of which could have been the end of the campaign have actually played out to strengthen it. Things such as Saul Anuzis trying to get Ron Paul removed from the debates. Things such as Giuliani's attack in the May debate and the media declaring him the winner. This campaign has proven the maxim that "whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."

I have expressed this before and will continue to do so - it is an extreme honor to be working along side you people, you are truly the salt of the earth. Although we come from very different backgrounds and disagree on a lot of issues, we have been able to set those differences aside in the battle for freedom, the great uniting principle.

Never give up!
Never surrender! (corny line from Galaxy Quest, but it fits!)

Just for the record, I wasn't intending to encourage complacency, rather, demonstrate that the campaign is demonstrating that those who haven't surrendered to complacency, that will fight for a longshot, are making a difference, possibly a huge one.

if you haven't seen this yet you should read it:

Bringing Politics Back to the People - The Do it Yourself Campaign of Ron Paul

Also we should keep in mind that winning is great, but converting voters to the cause of limited government is the greatest goal, IMO, cuz then it doesn't matter who wins any election, since the politicians are made up from the people. :)

Yup. And we need to stop thinking we can win this on the internet alone. We can't. There are tons of people who don't use the internet AT ALL. Up to this point, we have just about totally forgotten them.

Sometimes, I seriously wonder if we want this badly enough. If the New Hampshire primary is indeed moved up to early December, we have about 6-7 weeks to go. New Hampshire is small enough that there is no excuse for surrounding states to not be helping the New Hampshire Meetups make sure that every household has at least 1 piece of campaign literature in their hands.

C'MON! Do we want this or don't we? If we want it, we're going to have to get outside of our comfort zones to make it happen. We're actually going to have to walk outside and hand campaign literature to real human beings.

I agree! And that's what a few of us in New Hampshire
have been working on.

Did you see the thread I created this morning?

It's all about 'uniting' and 'taking combined, strategic
actions.

The more we unite and the more we work together,
the quicker the momentum will grow!

Great posting and great link to your article! I want more!!!!

Well, I was writing these things and then pimping them around to various websites, with some success. I'm still doing that, but I figured while waiting for some editor to judge whether something is useful to their site, I'm just putting everything up in a blog.

You can see these things as I write them here. Right now, I'm pretty much just writing Paul stuff, since that is what I'm thinking about these days.

And thanks for your comments!

yeah, I saw the thread. How many have signed up? and can you give me a little more info on it, what this strategy is. I went to the webpage, but you have to sign up to get in. Its going to take a hundred or more like minded individauls. On this forum I keep seeing the same 10 or so people. Most people can only put in few hours a week.
Since August, Ive been talking about strategy, and the idea has been poo pood as collectivism. Fine lets all be individaulistic libertarians with Giuliani or Hillary as our rulers. The founding fathers had to unite, and become organized against their enemy.

I too started out thinking RP didn't have a prayer. But I am seeing signs, a lot of signs, that this could really happen. Meanwhile I am saving bail money for when they arrest me for setting off several tons of illegal fireworks!!!

Hahaha, please record a video for this surprise firework show for those of us here. :D

Signing up isn't necessary...

Only if you want to read or leave a comment.

But why not sign up?
Our greatest leverage is for us to 'come together'.

The strategy is simple really. UNITE and work
TOGETHER taking specific strategic actions.

In addition to a few of our own ideas (up here
in New Hampshire), we also compiled some other
really great ideas from here and put them in
a step-by-step format so that we can focus our
efforts.

1) Coming together
2) Spreading the word that we are uniting
3) Ron Paul Revolution rearview window graphics
(did you see these? They are fantastic)
4) How to spread the word beyond 'Ron Paul
sites' to those who share similar interests.
5) How to use videos in your neighborhood.
6) 1,000,000 Man Pledge

These are the first 6 steps that will (if we work
together) catapult the revolution to a new level!

As you can probably tell, a few of these steps
are from Ron Paul fans here at RonPaulForums.com

There are more on the way and we welcome
other ideas as well.
