Maverick Texas Congressman Ron Paul was third with almost 15 percent while former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson got under 10 percent, a major disappointment for his campaign.

Coming from a news service that has ignored Ron Paul almost as much as the Associated Press, "maverick" is quite a compliment -- up from "fringe candidate", up from "long shot," even more voter-friendly than "dark horse."
