Does anyone know RP's position with regard to the imprisonment of Ramos and Compean? I am somewhat disappointed by the seeming indifference.

It seems to me that Dr. Paul could get a lot of press coverage if he immediately began to make it a big deal to press for their release.

Duncan Hunter was on CNN tonight because he delivered a letter to the White House asking for their immediate pardon. . . .

I sincerely hope not. Those guys were convicted by a jury and they deserve their time in my opinion.

Problem is the jury was not given all the facts. When they later found out what transpired, several were quite upset and said they would never have found Ramos and Compean guilty had they known the facts.

They should appeal. The legislative branch is not the proper way to overturn a conviction.

Juries are often denied access to facts, so that in itself doesn't mean anything. There may be grounds for an appeal of course, but just because the original jury members have a change of heart doesn't mean much.

The one thing I want to hear about this matter is why the 2 border agents did not report the encounter or that they had fired at the guy. Why did they try to cover up the event? Honest cops don't do that crap.

There exist many more deserving LEOs who never went to trial. I hope they're numbers 3 and 4 on President Paul's pardon list. Right after the Browns.

You are wrong, the prosecutor is corrupt, he knowingly left out important evidence, lies were told and the case stinks to high heaven.

I think it's a travesty of justice, those men got 11 years (and last I heard they are in solitary confinement) for shooting a drug trafficker in the side of his butt - because they believed he was armed and he had turned to face them, pointing with something in his hand that they believed was a gun.

And the drug smuggler got off the hook twice (now he's finally in jail) while the border agents get the book thrown at them?

Bush should pardon them immediately, and the fact that Bush isn't pardoning them should be a wake-up call for anyone still foolish enough to believe in Bush.

Why did the border agents not report the shooting when it happened? Why did they try to cover it up?

A jury found them guilty, and based on their actions they sound guilty as hell to me. The criminal record of the drug smuggler is irrelevant.

One of the agents, Compean, did give a full verbal report to his supervisor. The story you heard is the distorted version, from the prosecution. Also, other agents had arrived on the scene, so it wasn't like no one knew what had happened.

If I'm not mistaken, it was the supervisor who chose not to fill out the written reports. Compean and Ramos didn't think they had hit the guy because he ran away.

So if anyone should be at fault, imo, it's the supervisor.

The 2 agents should never have gotten 11 years for shooting in self defense and trying to protect our borders from drug runnning creeps.

No, what happened was the prosecution lied and withheld evidence, and members of the jury have even come out and said that if they had that evidence, they wouldn't have voted the way they did.

Also, I heard that a few of them didn't want to convict, but were told there couldn't a hung jury, and they felt pressured to agree.

I haven't read this case, but I do know that facts are frequently withheld from juries, when those facts are deemed prejudicial or not material to the case at hand, or otherwise inadmissable.

Just saying that withholding info from the jury, such as the criminal record of the victim as an example, might not in itself be unusual or indicative of wrongdoing.
