he doesn't want the elderly to recieve it? why or why not? and how does he plan to have the elderly get their medication

Ron Paul has said that he doesn't want to abolish Medicare overnight but wants a transition period where after saving hundreds of billions of dollars from overseas expenditures he would tie the elderly over and at the same time allowing young people to opt out of medicare.

thanks I just found his position in the Paul library.. he will make it more effectivel..

Wow I'm finding I'm agreeing with Paul on almost everything.. what a brilliant man!

These geratics better be glad we are not in a dictatorship in which I am the dictator I would abolish medicare and social secuirty, medicaid, food stamps, foreign aid, corporate welfare, and anything function that isn't in the constition within 100 days.

...And what would come after the "transition period"? How would the elderly/disabled get their medicine?

The dead don't need medicines. In other words, the transition period will be long enough that it would still be provided to all those it was promised to, while those of us that want to get out and not be stolen from can get out, and those that never got in aren't accepted in.

By letting young people opt out, they no longer operate under the same assumption the current elderly do, which is that they're guaranteed certain benefits. Therefore, they will plan and save accordingly.

I'm pretty sure he has private medical insurance. That or he pays cash when he sees the doctor.

You missed the "disabled" part. What if you can't work and have no family to support you?

Prior to people becoming dependent on the government, churches and charities filled the needs of the community. Think about the difference in people scamming the government because they "meet the criteria" without a real need versus a person in need (real or not) having to present their case to church or charity. The church or charity often provides a more holistic approach to what is ailing the person, rather than giving them a blank check. Furthermore if American people are charitable even when the gov't is stealing 30% of our money -- imagine even half of that reinvested back into the economy and the economy is booming. How much more charitable would we be and how much less assistance might we need? Too many people have come to think of the government as their God.

There was an interesting article, of all things, about the militia... and while you may initially fail to see how this will apply, the point made is that going back to the Constitution will provide all sorts of benefits that most of us have not even begun to fathom. Ron Paul understands how all of the issues we face are intertwined. He definitely has the holistic approach.

My question is still unanswered.

I believe, from knowing his other issues,

1) Allow young people to phase out
2) Let those dependent on it allow to be dependent by saving money from foreign expenditures
3) For those who are disabled with no family, I don't know. He wouldn't phase out Medicare during an 8 year period though so it'd be someone else's decision to privatize it or leave it up to the states or leave it up to charity (Paul supports charity I assume, and recognizes the rights of the states)

It certainly isn't a perfect system. In no system will everyone receive everything they need. What we're after is simply the best possible system, even though we strive for perfection.

People that are disabled and can't work and have no family to help them may obtain help through friends, churches, and local charities. Ron Paul did mention that he used to work in a charity hospital for $3/hour, everyone was treated without question, and no one was turned away. Since that time, government has entangled themselves in health care, and charity and church hospitals have all but disappeared.

And even then, there may be an extremely small percentage of people that slip through the cracks and are not able to obtain the help they need. This number of people would be much smaller than any other system we could possibly have. Those that think that everyone will be covered to sufficient degrees under "universal" health care haven't been paying attention to how government handles everything else they've done.

Hi everyone,

I wanted you to know that I support Ron Paul for President, and I want you to know why I support him. As a Med-Waiver provider for the past 4 years I have learned much about the way the Medicaid System and Social Security and SSI works to provide Services and Supports to Individuals with Disabilities and their families. There is a lot of misinformation being spread about Dr. Paul and his platform. I am writing to address one of the beliefs that is being misrepresented by the press.

Dr. Ron Paul doesn't advocate "gutting Social Security and Medicare," as some people have maintained. Rather, he truthfully asserts that these programs are going broke and that the only way to finance our current obligations to those dependent on them is to massively reduce our military empire throughout the world. He would use those funds to fully fund Social Security and Medicaid for those who will need it, while at the same time offering young people a way out of this despicable Ponzi Scheme that promises them money and security that simply won't be there for them.

And while he wants most things left to the privet sector, he wants to take back control of our monetary policy from the illegal cartel of private banks that run it today and end other forms of corporate welfare that are bleeding the middle class of this country dry. With sound money once again controlled by congress, the inflation tax will end, and the need for many of the social programs that Paul wants to cut will be mitigated by growing prosperity and the genuine human charity made possible by a wealthy society.

You don’t have to take my word for it, you can read Dr. Paul’s stance on Medicaid/Medicare/Social Security and SSI issues for yourself:

I urge you to take some time and learn more about this remarkable man by visiting his website at http://www.ronpaul2008.com . I believe he is the only candidate running who appears to know anything at all about the way Social Security and Medicaid are funded, how they are being robbed by other government expenditures, and he knows how to save Social Security and Medicaid so that those who need it the most will continue to receive it. I believe the current budget deficit crisis that we face in Florida today is a direct result of rampant government spending. I am angry that our present government is even considering expanding Medicaid to include illegal aliens, when we do not have enough money to provide services to Individuals with Disabilities who are in this country legally and need those supports in order to continue living with their families in their own homes and not in an institution. This is but one of many reasons why I choose to vote for Dr. Ron Paul in the GOP Primaries on January 29th and why I will support him all the way to the presidency in November 2008!

Sincerely,
