and I work at a convenience store.. so next time I've got some free time, I'm going to write on every single bill in the register :D

I'm I' m not mistaken writing the "thought bubbles" on the presidents face is illegal. Writing text on the bottoms and sides is not against the law.

I have nothing against breaking a law for a good cause and all but it could turn people off from Ron Paul's message.

oh whoops.

I'm sure Washington wouldn' t mind.

I'll start using the stamp on the sides and bottom once I get it.

Most people think that writing on the currency is illegal, so I don't think the thought bubble would turn them off any more than the margin stuff.

I never heard that about writing on the President's face.

And I like the bubbles.

Defacement of Currency: Defacement of currency is a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code. Under this provision, currency defacement is generally defined as follows: Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

Writing on currency so that it cannot be used to pay debts public or private anymore and needs to be reissued is illegal. Like making the serial number unreadable, for example. Simply writing on currency so that it is still perfectly useable is not a crime. However, a lot of people *think* it is a crime, so I don't know if we should put ron's name on shady behaviour.

One viable alternative for those that don't wish to write on the money is making and/or ordering Ron Paul stickers that you can put on the money.

I've done the research on this topic, and this is definitely legal.

Drawing on a bill to the point at which it is not longer "issuable", IS illegal.

That is more likely to render money unusable than simply sharpie-ing it. So it is more likely to be a crime than writing on it. The law includes "cementing things on."

I was thinking the easy to remove stickers (think Chiquita bananas), not the superglue-never-comes-off stickers.

It is legal to write on money if it's something simple like a website address or something.

the where's george site has been around for years and is even on the news and no ones ever made a fuss about it:

I've gotten a couple of these bills:

Of course, you could cement a gold coin on it. Then it would be worth something

Here's my Ron Paul FRN - had him sign it at the Iowa rally! :D

I can imagine explaining this to my grandchildren someday -

Back before you were born, we were forced to use these worthless pieces of paper as money, even though it was in complete violation of our Constitution. But there was one man who fought against this illegal system of paper money based on debt: President Ron Paul, the greatest of them all, restored the use of the gold and silver money that we use today. Way back in 2007, he autographed this for me at a rally celebrating life and liberty, where some mean-spirited people had tried to prevent him from spreading his message of small limited government and personal freedom. But he got the last laugh; his speech attracted twice as many people as the six other candidates combined did in the forum from which he was excluded! That rally was the spark that started the Ron Paul Revolution that spread like wildfire across these united States, where we the people took back the power that the corrupt corporate government had stolen from us. Your Grandpa was at that rally, where he met the great man, who in signing this Federal Reserve Note, changed something that was worth nothing into something that is now priceless!

That is REALLY cool. If I have a chance, I hope to do the same.

As long as you do not alter the bill in any such manner as to render it unusable or alter the perceived value of the bill it is not illegal.

Remember, police "mark" bills themselves to catch and track criminals.

Further the "wheresGeorge" campaign has been around for years with no interruption by the authorities.
