The Republican National Committee demanded Monday that television networks stop running a television ad by the Democratic Party that falsely suggests John McCain wants a 100-year war in Iraq.

The ad says President Bush has talked about staying in Iraq for 50 years, then plays a clip of McCain saying, "Maybe 100. That'd be fine with me."

Democratic Party chief Howard Dean said "there's nothing false" about the ad.

"We deliberately used John McCain's words. This isn't some ominous consultant's voice from Washington. This is John McCain's own words. And we've been very upfront about everything that he's said."

He did not mean that we would be fighting a war there for 100 years. We have had troops in Germany for over fifty years now and they have not had to fight in that time. Korea for forty years. We don't usually bring home all the troops when we go into somewhere. Except for maybe places like Somolia.

Well, it has been Ron Paul's position that we shouldn't have troops deployed around the world like in Germany or South Korea. Even if we aren't fighting, we're spending millions to keep troops there, and for what?

What McCain meant was similar to having troops in Japan, Korea, Germany, etc. Our troops aren't in combat there, but we have a presence. Of course he doesn't want a 100 year war, and it is a little disingenuous for Democrats to attack McCain for this when it essentially their policy as well. In the original video John McCain says that it is ok to have troops in Iraq for 100 years as long as they are not being killed or injured.

Lets analyze that statement.

The first observation is obvious:

Troops ARE being killed and injured currently, therefore by McCain's own admission we should be coming home.

The second observation is:

If our troops are not being killed or injured, then they are not part of a conflict and have no reason to be there, by staying there 100 years and doing nothing all we are doing is burning money for the sake of burning money.

If for some reason McCain wants them to stay there waiting for a conflict, then see the first observation, our troops will start to be killed and injured and by his own admission we should bring them home.

McCain really is an idiot.

Seeing as how the Arabs have been fighting for 2,000 years, I don't foresee America's presence in the region ending anything.

Not to be picking on you so don't get defensive, but McCain is a big boy and knows what the middle east has been like for ages upon ages. He knows there is not going to be a resolution of conflict over there, so a 100 years of occupation will mean 100 years of conflict.

We will be consider an affront as long as we are there, and thus requiring a lesson in not to occupy the lands of foreigners. If China had their military in your front yard to ensure their version of peace prevailed how many years of occupation would it take for you to ignore their presence????
